Brief Church Mission Statement:
We the congregation by covenant, promise to provide a Christian community that:
- encourages each person to find and follow Jesus Christ, the Lord of Life,
- provides a Christian community that expresses love and compassion for the people of our congregation and the greater community,
- creates a prayerful atmosphere that is open and accepting, forgiving and supportive,
- provides a Christian community that is inclusive of all who want to learn about and live a Christian life.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Our vision is to be a true community church embracing all people who wish to share their faith in Jesus Christ.  We will provide a Christian community that expresses love and compassion by creating an environment that is open, accepting, forgiving, and supportive.  We will recognize the strength and value of our long term members while seeking input from new members.  We will work to understand and accept our differences to let our love of Christ be known to our entire Walnut Grove Community.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
Many people in our community consider WGCPC as their church even though they do not attend Sunday servcies.  However, other church related activities are well attended, such as the Christmas Candle Light service, Halloween Open House, and the July 4th pancake breakfast.  The last couple of years we have promoted "Celebrate the Delta," where we recognize the contributions of community members.  Our community has demonstrated that they want this church to succeed by financially supporting our exterior building remodel, paying for a new roof, using our fellowship hall for family parties and for weekly Rotary meetings.  Community members trust our church to baptize, marry, and provide a place for a memorial service.

We want to maintain and strengthen these relationships while looking for other ways to share the gospel by our actions, not just words.  Our intention is to do this with a spirit of caring and giving, without expectation of church attendance or anything in return.

We also recognize the challenges of reaching out to others. We will strive to do a better job of creating visibility and advertising events and activities by the use of community bulletin boards, technology, and social media.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
With our vision of a true community church we recognize we will need a pastor who understands engaging in the community is imperative.  The pastor will need to be outgoing and enjoy participating in community and church events.  The pastor will be a motivator and encourage all to embrace change.  He or she must be someone who can be willing to think outside the box and bring fresh ideas to our church.  We do not intend for the pastor to take all this on themself but will engage with all members as a team working to accept the challenge of this vision.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
We desire a pastor with a seminary education whose teaching and preaching will reflect biblicallly based theology.  We desire a person whose love for the Lord is contagious.  This person should be caring and kind, possessing a good sense of humor  and a positive approach to life and its challenges.  Good organizational skills are valued as is someone who is computer literate and can embrace ever changing technology.  The congegation's preference is for a pastoral family or a person with a strong family orientation.  If at all possible, we would very much like our Pastor to live in the Walnut Grove community, preferably in our manse, just a short walk from the Church.  In our community a Pastor with conversational Spanish would be helpful in reaching out to our diverse population.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
- Provide Biblically based Sunday service which relates to our daily lives.
- Lead the Celebration of the Lord's Supper each month.
- Provide marriage, baptism, memorial and committal counseling and ceremonies.
