What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
New Hope Presbyterian Church has served the community since it was founded in 1793 and has a long and rich history.  The church desires to maintain the core values of its congregation which include a genuine interest in the care and support of church members; a dedication to being a loving church with deep friendships and long-lasting relationships; possessing a strong sense of community and recognizing and appreciating its dedicated core leaders.  We desire to reach out to a hurting world and to those who have not experienced the kind of love and compassion taught by Christ and that we have to offer by His example.   Our church is involved in various outreach opportunities, including Crisis Assistance Ministry, the Black Mountain Home for Children, Habitat for Humanity, Back Pack Program for New Hope Elementary School, 5 Cents a Meal, Family Promise, Operation Christmas Child, Vacation Bible School, Red Cross Blood Drives, School Supplies for schools in our community, Annual Pine Needle Sale to fund our Youth Faith in 3D trip; 4th of July Patriotic Music Program and the support of Boy Scout Troop 501.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

New Hope Presbyterian Church recently participated in New Beginnings and wishes to establish a clear vision and a way forward into the future following Christ’s example for the church, while exploring new areas of growth and mission outreach in a fast-paced and changing society by recognizing, training and equipping new leaders; reaching and attracting younger families; improving marketing strategies; creating and utilizing a stronger on-line presence through website development, Facebook and other areas of new technology and adapting to a changing world while remaining true to New Hope’s core values and the Gospel.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
The congregation desires a pastor who has a passionate spirituality that will inspire and infect the congregation with a similar zeal for God.  The called pastor will offer sincere guidance for its present members and future young families and encourage members to work positively toward the future with great energy and love for all in our hearts.  A new pastor should re-energize and help the members of our congregation rediscover the personal gifts they have to offer.  He/She, along with the session and committee leaders, should create a desire in others to be involved in activities within the church as well as within the community.  A new pastor should promote the love of Christ and watch over the needs of all Christians while reaching out to those who are in need and hurting and have not heard the Good News of the Gospel.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
The new pastor called to our church should have a strong personal faith and be willing to share that faith with our membership and the community through the Word and involvement with church programs.  He/She should have a strong presence in the pulpit, both in content and delivery, with sermons that deal specifically with the biblical text and are reflective and taught including the history and theology of the text.  Our called pastor should possess a desire to help build a strong educational program, especially improving offerings for children and youth and must have an interest in outreach, training our session and congregation to attract and retain new visitors and members and raising the profile of the church in the community.  The pastor should have the ability to help the congregation discern a clear vision for the future and to focus on long range and short range planning.  The congregation desires a pastor with a warm, caring and humorous personality, someone who is approachable, engaging and easy to be with, and possesses the attributes of humility and compassion.  We desire for our new pastor and ourselves that which is found in the definition of Love in Action in Romans 12:9-12 - Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
The pastor we seek should enable each person to grow in their faith and outreach.  The new pastor will lead Sunday worship, need to, along with the CE committee members, develop programs for children and youth, lead the committee to encourage participation in Christian education opportunities, administer the sacraments, conduct marriages and funerals and work with the church committees, staff and community leaders.  Pastoral care is an important concern, visiting members, including those in homes, hospitals and living centers, making pastoral phone calls, following up with individuals on the prayer list,  making certain that the pastoral needs of the congregation are timely met and being available for emergencies.  A strong administrator with a light touch is desired who will build and improve committee structure, and be an effective leader who will work in partnership with Session and staff (church secretary, organist and pianist).  Most importantly, a new pastor should provide opportunities for spiritual growth within the church.
