Brief Church Mission Statement:
Unity Presbyterian Church strives to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and demonstrate God’s love by actively engaging the congregation in worship, prayer and enthusiastic involvement in the local community, mission field and support of congregational needs.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Unity is committed to spreading the Good News of God in our growing community. Our vision is to collectively and individually engage members and newcomers – through mission, worship, education and fellowship – on our journey to deepen our faith in, and service to, God.

Nestled on a peninsula near the shores of Lake Norman, Unity offers activities and programs to all ages to enhance our Christian journey. We offer a variety of fellowship activities to grow and strengthen friendships. We enthusiastically support over 40 separate mission programs, projects and/or organizations – both locally and internationally, providing opportunities for all ages to spread God’s word.  An active preschool center provides the early foundation for our youngest Christians, coupled with an active and energetic youth program.

A strength of Unity continues to be our weekly worship service. We strive to illustrate God’s word through relatable and relevant preaching, creative expression in music, visual, and drama as well as other elements to bring God’s word to better light and understanding. Our music program is exemplary – led by an accomplished director and a phenomenal pianist/organist. Our growing Stephen Ministry provides confidential caregiving to those experiencing personal crisis in their lives.

At Unity, grace is received and grace is given – both our vision and mission focus on sustaining and building God’s gifts of grace!

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Unity has experienced 9-10% annual membership growth for a decade. Proximity to the growing Charlotte area is an opportunity to spread the Good News. There are nearly 10,000 units of new construction within 11 new neighborhoods near our campus. We are called to expand our Christian outreach.

Unity is a forward-looking congregation.  We are blessed with a beautiful campus with modern facilities for worship, education and fellowship. However, building in the past decade included debt. We began an aggressive debt reduction campaign in 2017. Our campaign committee is dedicated for the next three years in making these goals a reality. Our “first fruits” are in and we are successful in meeting our first goal of this endeavor.

Children are important at Unity. We have developed a “renovation” strategy with milestones for an even stronger children and youth program for our families. We understand families desire flexibility and we respond by offering two worship services at 9:30 and 11:00. If you can’t be with us in person, we offer a live online broadcast of our service.

This forward-looking focus can be found in all our ministries– locally, nationally and internationally. Our growth vision hedges on successful connections with all ages. We seek to maintain strong relationships and forge new ones with members of our community that will break down the barriers that separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ. We strive to promote peace, compassion and justice in the world.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

Our first priority is to find a pastor who is innovative, dynamic and inspirational – one that can lead our flock to meet the needs of our existing membership and inspire our future members.

We look for someone who has successful experience in a growing community. Our ideal pastor will be one who can inspire and motivate all members; work through conflict; and possess the vision and energy that will empower our congregation to fulfill God’s plan for us into the future.

Unity is always willing to try new and different ideas. We have many gifted and active leaders and a congregation that desires the opportunity to partnership with our new pastor.
