Brief Church Mission Statement:
We are a family of believers in Jesus Christ who imperfectly embody the love of God. As a community of faith we are called to make visible to the world God's hope for humanity and all of creation. We proclaim Jesus in thought, word, and deed. We welcome and publicly affirm all people as made in the image of God and invite all to join us on this journey.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
We are a fully inclusive and publicly affirming church for persons who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or non-heterosexual. God loves each person and cherishes us, just the way we are. All are welcome here.

The Westminster Presbyterian Church, chartered 1961, has experienced success and adversity. With long term and short term pastors, our resilient congregation has thrived and struggled. Our aging service focused congregation wishes to survive and grow into a more viable church community. Having recently experienced tumult and the effects of Covid within and without the congregation with the subsequent loss of pastor and some leadership members, the surviving community is learning to find our way. We hope to clarify our mission and continue to reach out to battered families, those in need of food security, the educational and medical communities and ourselves. Not abandoning our past stated mission will require direction from our new pastor and parishioners in order to make visible God's hope for humanity.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
By continuing our current caring activities which include a Prayer Circle, a Grieving & Support Group, the provision of meals to members in need, visitation to support and promote spiritual renewal and prayer, we care take our church family and through these activities we support our church family and community. Through focus on the needs of the community, we continue to support Battered Families and the Community Food Pantry as well as the Presbyterian seasonal offering opportunities like the yearly supply of complete Thanksgiving meals for approximately 7 families. As we regroup with the new minister, we will be better able to discern our strengths as well as ascertain where best to expend our church community’s energy.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
In the aftermath of Covid pandemic and the transition to a new Pastoral relationship, the congregation should be nursed back to health and hopefully the new Pastor will be able to build on the solid core of the Church and help focus/guide us to better fulfill our mission.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
The new leader should be a theological/spiritual interpreter and effective communicator/listener. He/She should have organizational and interpersonal relationship skills, be culturally proficient and have vision/strategy proficiency. The pastor will need to be a resource to help the congregation become a more vital force within the Gallup community.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
The Pastor should lead, provide pastoral care, moderate the session, help build an ecumenical atmosphere in the community. WPC will need guidance in redeveloping membership, enthusiasm and outreach as we navigate a (hopefully) post-Covid world.
