Brief Church Mission Statement:

The mission of the Presbytery of Boise is to assist, support, equip, and challenge congregations to be disciples, and to make disciples for Jesus Christ.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

The Boise Presbytery seeks to create a collaborative sense of community mission and vitality in our partnerships, our churches, and our validated ministries. We have a robust effort to support mission grants in our member churches, supporting them in community efforts. We seek to make quarterly Presbytery meetings a time of engagement and sharing in the ministries happening throughout SW Idaho and seek to be partners in the challenges of revitalizing church life in the 21st century.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

The Boise Presbytery has created times of engagement in our meetings to connect with the work of validated ministries and our churches – increasing the collaborative work of our shared mission.  We are seeking new partnerships beyond traditional denominational lines to promote new ways of doing ministries in places where long standing congregational ministry is struggling.  We are also looking at the future of our Presbytery in light of our size and the sense of scarcity that is pervasive in many of our churches.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

This position will fulfill constitutional roles of the Stated Clerk while leading us in vision and strategy to develop a new sense of our shared life together as a Presbytery with either deeper connection to neighboring Presbyteries or through a merger of two or three Presbyteries into a larger denominational body.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
  • Ordained Teaching Elder or Ruling Elder with significant experience in the PC(USA)
  • Have excellent human relations and pastoral skills in working with pastors and congregations of all sizes;
  • Have a good knowledge and understanding of the role of a presbytery in the PC(USA) structure;
  • Have administrative skills in areas such as: clerical administration, problem solving, conflict management, strategic planning, and financial management
  • Have excellent communication skills with both individuals and with groups;
  • Be innovative and creative to bring about and accept change and new ideas; be attentive and respectful when working with persons who have ideas different from their own.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

This role will fulfill all Constitutionally mandated roles of the Stated Clerk, they will resource churches and validated ministries, and they will lead and support a visioning process about the future structure and vision of the Presbytery of Boise in coordination with the Synod of the Pacific and our neighboring Presbyteries.
