Brief Church Mission Statement:

“We are a church as God intended, a community of believers who care for one another and go out into the world proclaiming the goodness of God’s love as shown in Jesus Christ.  All are welcome here!”

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Our congregation feels the need to minister to the surrounding area.  We are currently serving monthly free community meals; providing for a meeting place for the local AA members; assisting CCAP through financial means to help folks with food and services.  We have a very active committee which plans events for the next 6 months, including hosting 2 Gospel groups which will be performing at our church. We will be having a community Maundy Thursday service and have plans to celebrate our 70th year as a community of believers called by God.  This will occur in October of 2022.  Sunnyside Church also seeks to share pastoral leadership with another church, and are partnering with Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church. Their needs are less than that of Sunnyside. We have shared a friendship with each other over several years due to family ties in each church.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

The Sunnyside community is increasing in size through new housing projects.  We feel the need to develop effective ways to make our church more visible in the community by installation of new signage, updating the church’s property and doing regular mailing and advertising through local media.  We currently are broadcasting our Sunday morning services as well.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We feel it is necessary for our church to have an individual who is able to help give us vision for planning a future for Sunnyside in ways that we may have not realized. Our congregation is willing to do whatever God leads us to do to return Sunnyside Presbyterian Church to its fullest potential.  We need guidance.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

Our congregation desires a caring individual and a good leader.  We are currently a congregation of 50+ members.  Visitation of the elderly and sick members is very important to us.  It would be great to have an individual with a sense of good humor as well.  Most important is a person who will preach the word of God each Sunday.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

This person will be responsible for Planning worship services, moderating Session, providing assistance and knowledge in planning events, and visitation. Sunnyside has an office which will be available o this person and furnished to meet any needs they may have.
