What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

“We are a community of believers, united by the love of Jesus Christ.  We seek to share that love in thought, word, and deed throughout our local diverse community.” We pray for, support, and participate in mission programs in our church, community and throughout the world.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

In our church

We do recognize their high school and college graduations and provide scholarships for college students.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We need committed pastoral leadership to help move our congregation closer to Christ and to help our congregation grow in numbers and energy level to enable us to sustain our outreach to the community.  We would like our next pastor to bring renewed energy to our members and provide direction to our aging congregation in ways to serve God and our community.  To achieve any goals, we need a pastor with initiative who will help guide and encourage our members to take an active role in this process.  With our current decline in attendance and the aging of our active membership, the pastor may also be asked to provide direction to our members in preparing how we can leave a legacy to the local community in which our church was founded.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

Located in a small city of approximately 22,600 as of 2018, our church was founded by families who were established homeowners in the neighborhood, is one of the smallest of nine PCUSA churches in a ten-mile radius. The neighborhood is now low-income, transient with most of the residences being subsidized rentals properties. The ideal candidate will be a seminary graduate with skills in bible teaching, open & honest communications, collaborative team building, and effective pastoral care. We are looking for someone to be spiritually nurturing, authentic, approachable, open-minded to lead our church into a God-filled future. While we are looking for someone with a minimum of two years pastoral experience, we will consider a new graduate seeking his/her first church. This person would work with Session to accomplish our goals. Our members are actively involved in our church’s goals and seek a pastor who will serve as a leader of our team, provide guidance when needed, and encourage us to complete our goals. We also value a pastor with an ecumenical aptitude.  We encourage the pastor to be active in the Waynesboro Pastors Group which is represented by various denominations, races and sexes collaborating to provide programs that are beneficial witness to the community at large.  Being fluent in English and Spanish is not a requested but could be beneficial to our church in communicating with those in our community.  Financial Management and Technology skills a plus.
