ALL IN SERVICE TO OUR LORD

Excerpts from our web page:

“Tomahawk Presbyterian Church is in a small well-kept stone building on a hilltop surrounded by centuries old oak trees and a cemetery, but we’re not “small” by any other measure. The church is a family with a mission first is to learn about God through his word and to worship, glorify and praise God. We desire to do that in fellowship with our friends and neighbors – welcoming all who wish the same. So come as you are. We want you to feel welcomed and comfortable here.  We want you to be part of this Christian family.”

“We know that people visit churches for various reasons. We hope that we can fill your need, and that you are filled by the Holy Spirit when visiting here. But even if you don’t visit with us, please know that there is nothing you can do to make God love you more, and there is nothing you can do to make God love you less. At a minimum though, we believe that we should all acknowledge God. Ask God to forgive you of your sins and mean it. Believe in Jesus as the only begotten son of God.  Learn more about God through his word and prayer and share the good news about Jesus with others.  If you think we can help fill a void in your life, visit us a few times to see for yourself.”

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

We are a small congregation, approximately 40 on the rolls and average attendance around 25 each Sunday. A church body has met in this location since 1745 and has survived many ups and downs over the years. We are true stewards and deeply involved in our community. We have seen very limited growth and have virtually no regular youth attendance. Our vision is one of sustainment while also meeting needs of the community that will hopefully add to our membership.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

A huge need in our community is support and opportunities for those suffering with substance abuse issues. The opioid epidemic is serious in our region and no community or church has been unaffected. Whether it be financial, moral, or spiritual support, we need to be ready and willing to partner to help this vulnerable population.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We need guidance and leadership with a strong message of forgiveness, hope, and service.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

They need to be open to how the community has changed, willing to hear from long-term members as well as open to new ways to worship, new ideas, and methods of drawing people into the church. For us, outreach and marketing are key. We are not clearly visible from the road, so we need to have something no one else has. Once we get people in the door they love the church and its congregation. Visibility is our biggest challenge.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

Worship, visitation, special services, and face of the church as it moves forward remembering what is was established on.
