Brief Church Mission Statement:

We, as members of the body of Christ and Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, strive to be an extended family-- reaching out to one another, our community and the world. In offering ourselves to this sacred mission, we will show the way of Christ so that the community and the world in which we live may learn "to do justice, love mercy, and to walk humbly with God." --- Micah 6:8

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Ultimately the vision for FWPC's ministry is to grow the Kingdom of God, bringing in new and unchurched to the love and peace the Jesus brings. While our church relies heavily on the leadership a Pastor brings, our true leader is Jesus Christ. We are committed to doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. We expect our pastor to be active with the congregation, participating in activities and visiting the sick. We expect our pastor to be involved heavily with the Shepherd program which we hope to expand. However, we do not expect our new pastor to do or carry everything. This congregation is involved with the ministry of the church and will do much of the heavy lifting as a group. We look to our minister for motivation and inspiration, but also for information. We hope our new pastor will be able to communicate effectively with the congregation so that our vision for the future is able to be carried out. We are open to new ideas yet have rich traditions. We hope to create and expand our youth services, and our Christian education programs. We have a thriving women's Bible Study, but hope to offer more avenues for personal growth and development. We also hope to offer new and innovative ways of worshiping which will appeal to new members and long-time members of the congregation alike.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Our church has always seen local mission as very important. We currently have budgeted support for several community ministries which feed and clothe needy families including Loaves and Fishes, Community Day, Mission trips, VBS, etc. Many of our members volunteer with local agencies such as Hospice and Meals on Wheels. Some church members are so strongly called to reach out to the community that they started ministries taking care of needy families and keeping children connected during Covid, which our church strongly supports. We have a heart for increasing our ministry in the community and currently have a process in place for establishing such. Excitement is spreading through our church. We plan to strengthen our understanding of God's plan for our mission by establishing Bible study for our members and the community. It is very important that our mission be rooted in the Word of God.

Knowing that the future of the church lies in the hands of the next generation, we plan to establish a thriving youth program which will strengthen the faith of the whole church family and draw in the local unchurched youth. We are also placing an emphasis on coordinating and strengthening group activities, which will motivate community members to join.

We are mapping a strategy for bringing about these ideas which will include regular evaluation of the needs of our members and community, thus contributing to long term growth.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We need a spiritual partner to help implement our vision. Our new strategic plan initially focuses on stabilizing the church after the constraints caused by Covid and our pastoral transition. Our plan centers around strengthening our fellowship with and participation by our members, and then building out into the community from that strength. We need a pastor partner with us on that faith journey. The desired result is "Every Member in Ministry".

Because our congregation has a deep but diverse faith, we need the pastor to lead spiritually rich worship where all members leave our church renewed by the Holy Spirit. We would also like guiding hand on Christian education activities.

While we don't expect our pastor to be a social media expert, we do look to the pastor to provide meaningful communication on many aspects of our church life such as our vision, prayer concerns, and committee decisions. Dissemination of information through social media, email and such can be handled by other members, with the goal being transparency.

A spiritual leader of a small church often wears many hats. While we have a church secretary as support, our pastor is required to assume some level of responsibility for many activities. For example, the pastor may be the one answering the phone and helping to resolve issues.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
