Brief Church Mission Statement:

At Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church we are guided by God’s Word to:

  • Glorify God through worship and daily living which are built on our commitment to Jesus Christ our Lord
  • Proclaim God’s saving grace by building a uniquely Christian community for all people
  • Serve our Savior by serving others so that all people may experience the reality of God’s Love
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

As a theologically diverse congregation, we seek to foster God’s work in the quality of our relationships; our response to the elderly, the ill, and those experiencing grief; our commitment to children and youth; and our service to the community.  Our Congregational Care Ministry visits, provides meals and does small jobs for the homebound, and sends care packages to students and military personnel.  We partner with Love, INC, providing material assistance and life skills training for the poor; and support WARM, the area’s seasonal homeless shelter.  Our Prayer Ministry sponsors the Easter vigil, observes the National Day of Prayer, offers special programs such as 90 Days of Prayer, and publishes a weekly prayer focus.  We are active in Disciples’ Kitchen, which provides meals for those in need; and maintain a food pantry and clothes closet for the working poor.  We provide a strong Christian Education program for adults and children, offer a variety of special classes on issues such as parenting, and hold a Faith in Action Camp; we sponsor the Bibles for Life program and prepare our children and youth for leadership through an extensive confirmation class.  Our youth programs provide age appropriate Bible study and social activities and mission experiences.  We participate in the Haiti Medical Mission and the Summerlee housing rehabilitation work trips and support an Early Childhood Learning Center located on site.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

As in most mainline congregations, Tinkling Spring is affected by the deep divisions in our culture and the decline of interest in institutional faith, particularly among young adults, and reaching those with no faith experience remains unexplored territory for us.  While committed to outreach within the community, we must learn to assess the emerging needs around us, as well as address the continuing need of the congregation to grow in our ability to fulfill the command to love God and neighbor.  Confronted by hot button issues and fundamental disagreement, we need help learning to manage conflict in a healthy way.  During the Interim time, we have used Appreciative Inquiry to examine the qualities we value in our congregation and have found  the process to be a useful technique.  Although our outreach might be described as a work in progress, we are committed to making what Jesus taught and how he lived the foundation for our ministry in the future.
