What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
To worship and serve the Lord, by equipping the saints for ministry. As a community of faith, we seek the Lord's blessing for each other. By blessing all in the name of Jesus Christ. To witness with/for others, share the faith with future generations in a spirit of Christian hospitality and compassion. To encourage and equip members by providing for our worship, fellowship and education. To identify and develop opportunities for Christian service individually and corporately. To develop in the world a sense of Christian commitment and stewardship. We encourage others to grow in their faith journey by providing Sunday school, weekly church, open office hours and book studies. During service; group devotion, confession, silent prayers, music, and passing of the peace help deepen our spiritual lives. We live out fellowship by doing meals, game nights, and collaborating with surrounding churches. BSPC shares God and the word to future generations by doing VBS, welcoming new members, witnessing with people coming to Christ, and doing baptisms and confirmations. Our church makes hospitality a priority by focusing on shut-ins, those who can't attend church, also being willing to help whenever needed. Members of the church reach out by giving their time and talent, serving on committees, monetary donations, helping local organizations and the Presbytery. BSPC shows the world what it means to live for the Lord; our members are involved in the community and are positively impacting it. |
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
Hunger, poverty and poor health are all connected. We feel called to these needs through the programs we help support in the County, State, the Shenandoah Presbytery, for the issues that are brought to our congregation by some of our members and for others in the community who come to seek help. Currently, we support the underprivileged in our community through MCEIC (our local food bank), the school backpack program which provides food to students, and a school supply drive at the beginning of each school year. Our church adopts a family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, providing food supplies for the Thanksgiving and Christmas meal along with other food supplies typically needed for the children and adults in the family. The Christmas family also receives gifts for the children. Prior to COVID, many members participated in the Mealtime Soup Kitchen serving meals to the homeless and hungry in our community. Our church supports the Shenandoah Presbytery through the PDA, Hunger, OGHS and Joy offering throughout the year. Our church has a thriving Presbyterian Women's Group which supports the Thank and Birthday offerings for missions here and abroad and supports our church family. Our church has also been a vessel for the community with free musical concerts, to stimulate their minds and feed their souls with music. BSPC would once again, as in the past, like to provide the youth of our community a safe place to come and see the many ways the Lord provides for us in our lives every day. |
