What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
At Donalsonville First Presbyterian Church, our vision for ministry is to grow in our mission endeavors by empowering our members with an understanding of the Bible and how to be great disciples for our Lord, Jesus Christ. We see a strong Christian Education program for all ages as essential to this vision. An effective stewardship program is also essential. We make missions more than 20% of our overall budget. At the present time, our congregation is involved in several different missions. In our own community, we participate in a week-end Backpack Program for middle and high school, we support the Friendship House of Jesus, help our neighbor-church, Friendship Methodist, with its monthly Manna Drop to feed the needy, and meet for Bible study with male and female inmates on a rotating schedule with other churches. At Christmas, we provide needed items to our local nursing home and Presbyterian Home in Quitman. We recently participated in a mission trip to Thornwell Home for Children and Youth in Clinton, SC, where meals were cooked and treats were delivered to 8 family cottages. Threads of Love is a group of ladies who meet twice weekly. They lovingly hand-make clothing, blankets, pillows, and other items which are distributed where needed. We have participated in summer mission trips to West VA, FL, AL, and to Guatemala and Mexico. Our church participates in Rise Against Hunger, Operation Christmas Child, and supports a PCUSA mission family in Taiwan.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
We have a strong commitment to our youth, but the large number of youth provides many challenges to keep the programming effective and the leaders fresh and enthusiastic. The community has many needs due to lower incomes and hurricane damage that we like to continue to address. would like to continue to be known as “that church that helps people”. We have a number of educators and retired educators in our congregation. are made aware of opportunities to help assist families when needs arise. It was through these connections that we became aware of the need to provide non-perishable food items to middle and high school on week-ends and holidays. also have volunteers involved in activities as the local nursing home, Friendship House of Jesus, and prison ministry. |
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
Our congregation is seeking a person with enthusiasm who will encourage, inspire, and guide us as we continue to reach out to meet the needs of people who live and work in our community. Effective sermons and the ability to motivate others will be required to achieve our vision. Fresh approaches to a traditional view of the Bible will help ensure a successful calling.
