Brief Church Mission Statement:

Summerville Presbyterian Church is a 500-member church with a mix of age ranges. SPC holds a traditional service in our historic sanctuary and a contemporary service in our gymnasium/fellowship facility each Sunday. Both have upgraded audiovisual technology that allow us to broadcast both services via Facebook Live and Youtube.

Our Sunday school program includes classes from nursery school, through all the grades and into adult sessions. Each year our youth attend camps and retreats at Bethelwoods and Montreat. We have Sunday night Youth and Joykids and host Vacation Bible School and Music and Drama Camps. SPC’s “Wednesday Night Live” program allows congregants to meet for supper and fellowship. We open our doors to scouts, basketball games, Alcoholics Anonymous and other groups.  We support local ministries like Angel Tree, Meals on Wheels, and Help of Summerville.  SPC also operates a Jail Ministry at Dorchester County Jail. We support local homeless shelters, Habitat for Humanity, and Water Missions International and participate in the annual Thanksgiving Basket project, feeding more than 300 families each year.

Our signature outreach program each year is “Hands of Christ.” Members of SPC work year- round to purchase, collect, organize and store clothes, books and school supplies for needy families.

SPC takes part in various mission trips and we also support missionaries in Brazil, Costa Rica and Madagascar.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
We have a vision of service and fellowship to our community both at home and abroad. We value
warmth and welcome any worshiper who enters our doors. We minister through our love for one
another and for those who visit us.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
Summerville is growing. Rapidly. We have large industrial facilities (Boeing, Volvo, Mercedes Benz)
building huge plants all around us, plants that bring with them large labor forces and the families that
follow them. We also have a growing population of retirees settling here.
So the question becomes, how do we adjust our programs to match the growth?
Our varied worship services and internal programs provide places for newcomers to connect with God,
find community, and work in service. SPC has certainly seen an influx of new members. We will
continue to strengthen and provide those programs which have served us in the past and which had a
hand in bringing in new members. In addition, we pray that God reveals new opportunities to serve our
congregants.
At the same time, growth brings more people who are less fortunate and need assistance best provided
by people of faith. No doubt our existing ministries will be tested like never before. And no doubt God
will also provide us means and opportunity like never before.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
We need someone with fresh ideas about how we can best grow God's Kingdom in Summerville, South Carolina and the energy to make things happen.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
