“Inviting all people” because God calls us to do so and being welcoming has fueled our growth. 30% of our members have joined in the last five years which has enabled us to reflect a broader, more diverse mosaic of our community. A “faithful way of life in Christ and in community” means that our members share a desire for and a commitment to worship, education, music, mission and fellowship--as evidenced by the congregation’s active engagement.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Shallowford Presbyterian Church is a neighborhood church in a vibrant, growing and diverse part of metropolitan Atlanta. We welcome people from all walks of life to experience faith through worship, fellowship and community.

Our emerging needs include:

  • Expanding outreach and developing ministries to respond to those in need
  • Reaching new people and incorporating them into the church
  • Renewing, revitalizing and building coalitions with community partners
  • Broadening and deepening our Spiritual growth
  • Planning for the expansion of our facilities to support our growing ministries

We feel called to be more present in the community around us and to find new ways to bring people, partners and missions into the church. Our doors are open to all and we recently expanded our facilities to provide services and programs to people and organizations with needs currently unmet elsewhere:

  • Offered a special welcoming to members of Rehoboth Presbyterian when their church closed
  • Invited a Boy Scout troop and a Multiple Myeloma support group when they lost their meeting place
  • Host NAMI, AA, and the Atlanta Bagpipers meetings
  • Qualified as a Red Cross emergency shelter
  • Sponsored a refugee family
  • Provided Christmas gifts for 85 immigrant children
  • Tutored children through LaAmistad program

These efforts, and many more like this, fuel our desire to expand outreach and missions to reach new people. We want to be more intentional about spreading the Word and Spirit we experience at Shallowford.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We seek a senior pastor who will lead us to develop a specific plan to further equip our active congregation to be more inviting, welcoming, engaging and accepting of all.

Outreach

Our vision of Shallowford’s future is to grow a faith community that better includes everyone, faithfully modeling Jesus’ inclusive love and compassion for all people, regardless of race, socio-economics, sexual orientation or other factors.

Worship

With a focus on God’s grace, the pastor will lead worship planning and preaching to challenge and inspire the congregation to carry God’s love to our community and around the world. We seek a senior pastor who will honor our Reformed tradition and lead us to embrace the future God has planned for us.

Administration and Strategic Planning

The next pastor will lead and collaborate with our energetic staff and active, experienced congregation in developing and implementing a strategic plan. This plan will support our continued growth and ambitious goals while balancing space limitations, staff resources, and financial means.

Pastoral Care

We pray for a pastor full of love and compassion who will care for the sick and grieving among us and will engage all members, from our amazing children and youth all the way to our wise and resourceful seniors.

Mission

We seek a new senior pastor that will challenge and equip the congregation to reach a higher level of participation in our myriad local missions and to have a greater impact in global missions.
