Brief Church Mission Statement:
People ministering to people in Jesus' name.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
We are an outward-looking congregation who joyfully use the gifts and resources God has bestowed upon us. Our church membership has varied interests and actively participates in mission work outside of its church walls. It is our hope to bring God's word to all and for all to hear His word. Our doors and hearts are open to diversification and inclusivity.

We are a church with an inward and outward vision of ministry. We cherish our time together and support one another through prayer, Bible studies, teaching Sunday school, and serving on standing committees of Session. Our congregation is hardworking, yet we are fun-loving and enjoy social activities such as monthly luncheons, Presbyterian Women's and Men's groups, attending Mo Ranch (a Presbyterian church camp) and hosting retreats.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
While recovery continues in our community from Hurricane Harvey, and the pandemic, there are ever-growing needs which this congregation works hard to address. We partner with other churches and organizations to host a semi-monthly project called Community Table. This endeavor provides meals for almost 100 people, currently a drive-through service, and has been a staple in our church and community for over 18 years.

Many of our church members volunteer at Castaways, a local thrift store which provides much-needed items to the community at low cost. Not only does Castaways provide funds essential to our church coffers, but they also put money back into the community through grants. Other members actively participate in organizations such as Good Samaritans (dispensing groceries, money for utilities, medications, and rent on a must need basis), Casa de Esperanza (striving to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect for at-risk infants, children, and their families on the border) and a Prayer Quilt Ministry (making and delivering prayer quilts for those in need).

The Presbyterian Women have multiple missions, including the provision of clothing, school supplies, and weekend food backpacks to children in need, along with supporting returning-to-college students with tuition, books and gas.

Our church campus is blessed with facilities which are perfect for hosting Vacation Bible School, Boy Scouts, youth groups, community events and organizational gatherings.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
All our ministries are Christ-centered and focus on the needs at hand. We endeavor to be flexible and recognize when it is time to make changes and adjust attitudes. We look forward to working alongside our new pastor whose energy, vision and motivation will be most welcomed.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
First and foremost, a pastor in this church will be looked upon to nurture the church family through preaching and worship leadership. A preferable skill set should include the ability to listen, appreciate the value of church members, have a sense of humor, have a can-do attitude and when the need arises, make pastoral calls. Our church membership seeks a pastor who is strongly interested in encouraging young families and youth to become active in the church by creating, developing, and implementing programs for young families and youth.

Many of our church's members are active in the community, and we would encourage the pastor to do so as well....to have a public presence, join the Ministerial Alliance, be outgoing and engage others inside and outside the church.

Our coastal community, known as the "Charm of the Texas Coast" has a diverse and expansive population. Many are here because they are physically active, love the outdoors, and are drawn to all that the water and our bays have to offer. There is a large retirement community who are curious, energetic, enjoy volunteering and are generous with their knowledge and resources. The school district provides a learning environment which inspires students to realize their full potential as they positively influence the world around them.

A pastor who has a love for God, life and fellow man will find living and serving here, not only as an opportunity, but as a true pleasure.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

  • Meeting regularly with church staff (administrative assistant, music director, sexton, and maintenance personnel) to lead and coordinate worship services along with other essential church activities
