Brief Church Mission Statement:

Mission:

  • To create a place where people connect with Christ through authentic relationships to enhance and serve our community.

Vision:

  • To be a place where all are welcome to come together to deepen and share their Christian faith through worship, fellowship, witness, and service.
  • To be a cornerstone of faith which can be relied upon for support and spiritual guidance.
  • To be a congregation that comes together in service, supports one another, and bolsters our community.

Values:

  • Faith is the lifeblood of our church. It unifies the congregation, comprised of people from all walks of life, and it inspires us to build a supportive community. Our church deepens and expresses our faith through many avenues: prayer, scripture readings, Bible studies, fellowship, music, and service.
  • Our church is a warm and welcoming family that supports one another at all stages of life. Here, we greet each other by name. The gifts and talents of our members are celebrated, and members feel like their contributions to the church have meaning and purpose.
  • We believe that children and youth ministries are important to help young Christians develop foundational relationships with God. We offer programs like Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and youth ministries. The church also offers a preschool program for families throughout the week.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

As a fixture in the South Charlotte community for more than 50 years, Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church (QHPC) has a robust history of serving our Lord Jesus Christ. Like many other churches in our denomination, Quail Hollow has spent the last 10 years striving to become more relevant as a 21st century church. While experiencing both successes and setbacks, our congregation remains faithful that we can capitalize on new opportunities for growth and service. Our vision is to re-imagine and re-develop Quail Hollow as a “mission first” church that positions itself as an asset for all our neighbors in South Charlotte, a church that is at the heart of the positive change needed in this increasingly diverse world. We believe that our location, facilities, and preschool can provide the springboard to becoming more engaged in the surrounding community. A growing population, three nearby schools, and a large continuing care retirement community adjoining the property provide immediate avenues for purposeful Christ-centered outreach. We are excited to embark on this renewal journey, and concurrently, seek new leadership to join us.

Quail Hollow is seeking two pastors to work as a team to refine and implement this vision for a renewed church. We are blessed with the resources needed to support what will undoubtedly be a multi-year journey. Interested pastors who feel called to lead our congregation are urged to reach out to learn more. Inquiries or indications of interest may be directed to our PNC.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

QHPC is located in a rapidly growing part of the city which has undergone significant change in the last 20 years. The three nearby schools and adjacent retirement community provide immediate opportunities to engage the community. The diversity of our South Charlotte area is quickly expanding with an increasing population of historically underserved minorities. We believe that our church and preschool are uniquely positioned to fill a void in this community. With two new pastors, we seek to implement the vision of a “renewed QHPC” to bring the love of Christ, as his servants, to our neighbors. Our ultimate vision is for QHPC to become a hub of change and a resource for all, regardless of religious affiliation or faith. While we have lost our way, as we struggle to adapt to the emerging realities of the 21st century church, we are open and yearning for new leadership to help us realize this vision. We believe that re-establishing a mission-centered culture through a bold, innovative approach is critical to revitalizing our church.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

Our congregation is unquestionably aware that we need “transformative change” to become a truly relevant, modern church – one which shows Christ’s love through service to others. We believe that this change is so substantial that it is beyond the capacity of a single pastor. As such, we are seeking 2 co-pastors, with a minimum of 3 years experience in any area of ministry, who know each other but are not married to each other and have a desire to serve together. We are excited about the energies of a pastoral team who bring different gifts but have a singular passion for leading a “mission first” congregation. This team, which should apply as a pair, will need to provide pastoral care and spiritual nourishment to the existing congregation while also starting to build community connections and relationships to move Quail Hollow into a position of relevance and service. Our congregation believes that this “intentional integration” into the day-to-day needs of the local community is the key to redefining and growing our church. While we know this is a somewhat novel approach, we are very excited about the potential it holds.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

Between two co-pastors, we believe the following talents and gifts are needed to lead our congregation:

  • Preaching & Teaching – As a traditional PCUSA church, the QHPC congregation has a desire for someone who is “strong in the pulpit” and values teaching scripture. Pastors should bring energy and excitement to the service, refreshing and inspiring the congregation through relatable messages.
  • Vision & Leadership – Pastors should work closely with the QHPC Session and congregation to build an achievable, actionable plan to turn vision into a path forward. Strong candidates will have the foresight and initiative needed to solidify QHPC’s roadmap for the future.
  • Creativity – Drawing the community into a reimagined QHPC will require new ideas and innovative approaches.
  • Embraces Technology – Pastors should take advantage of the tools of technology and social media as ways to connect with the community, thereby extending the church’s reach and impact.
  • Connection Builder – QHPC needs pastors with a servant’s heart and the ability to connect with the surrounding community to discern their needs, as well as to build bridges within the congregation.
  • Energy & Endurance – We know this job will not be easy, and there will be setbacks along the way, but our congregation has the commitment and the resources to sustain a long journey. Pastors should understand the long-term nature of this road ahead and should be adept at resolving inevitable conflicts.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
  • Leading the church to develop and implement an achievable vision for the future.
  • Leading regular worship services, including delivering engaging, relatable sermons based on scripture.
  • Serving as head of staff, in partnership with the Personnel Committee, to see that QHPC staff members have the oversight, mentoring, and growth opportunities to sustain meaningful careers.
  • Providing compassionate pastoral care to the congregation for every stage of life.
  • Working closely with our Director of Music; musical worship has long been a strength and joy of our congregation.
  • Building the community connections and relationships needed to revitalize the congregation through service while bringing new relevance to QHPC.
  • Defining the additional resources needed for the renewal of QHPC.
  • Building connections among QHPC committees to ensure a more unified approach to our mission.
  • Strengthening connections between the church and the preschool with the ultimate goal of increasing community impact.
  • Working with neighboring Southminster Retirement Community to find synergies and areas of common interest.
