Brief Church Mission Statement:

The Waldensian Presbyterian Church of Valdese has been called by God and organized to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, to minister to the needs of members of the congregation and residents of the community, and to promote peace and justice in the world.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

The Waldensian Presbyterian Church’s vision for ministry focuses on, and is lived out through, engaging worship, a comprehensive music program for all ages that encompasses varying styles of music, Christian education opportunities for all ages, and consistent and impactful member care. Furthermore, our vision includes establishing meaningful routines and relationships in children’s and youth ministries, significant fellowship opportunities carried out through church wide and small group events, and outreach through local, regional, national, and international missions.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Through our Pastor, Missions Committee, and Diaconate, WPC works with other local churches and agencies in a coordinated response to the needs of our community, ensuring resources are available to meet existing needs without duplicating services. Our Community Assistance Ministry has a strong volunteer base and is well supported financially by our congregation. Our congregation is continually looking at ways we can help the children of our community through various programs that include the angel tree and backpack ministries. We have formed a committee to explore the possibility of constructing a new playground that would serve all children in our community, including those with disabilities. Finally, we are making efforts to reach out to minority populations in our county to join with us in worship and help raise awareness about issues they face each day in their communities.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

This person would partner with other staff, as well as members of the congregation, to serve the needs of our faith community and the larger community through worship, Christian education, member care, fellowship, missions, and service. When done properly, collaboration yields the best results and generates new energy.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

The person called to this congregation should be an inspiring, relatable, and accessible preacher of the Word of God. He/she should also be adaptable, knowledgeable of the reformed tradition and the practices of the PC USA, open to learning more about the Waldensian history of our church, and act as a servant leader. He/she should possess a positive energy and can-do attitude, have the ability to work well with others, and model Christian love. Finally, and very importantly, this person should be able to listen, empathize, and provide counsel and comfort when necessary.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

This person will have multiple responsibilities including:

  • worship leadership and worship coordination with the Director of Music, Director of Christian Education, and Worship Committee
  • providing member care, prioritizing homebound, long-term care, and hospitalized members
  • leading, collaborating, and communicating clearly with other staff members,

  • providing effective guidance and assistance to the Diaconate and all church committees as needed
  • encouraging continued work of local and international missions,
  • promoting congregational involvement in Christian education, fellowship, and service programming
  • supporting outreach efforts to attract new members to our congregation
  • other responsibilities as detailed in the job description.
