What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
In our desire to fulfill the gospel of Jesus Christ, we strive to live out our vision to be a church where engagement with God’s Word shapes us into faithful and committed disciples.

Our vision for ministry is to:

  • Engage--by providing exciting and diverse opportunities for all members to be engaged in worship, education and ministry;
  • Serve--by providing meaningful ways to equip every member to follow Jesus Christ where he leads and to be empowered by the Holy Spirit for Christian service;
  • Lead--by building up and empowering leadership to execute our mission, vision, values and plans;
  • Grow--the church as commanded by Christ and increase the membership broadly; and,
  • Give--accordingly of our resources of time, talent, gifts and treasures to accomplish the vision of our church.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

At FPC-Gastonia, we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ by embracing the needs of our church family, our local community and worldwide as we live out the great end to provide for the “shelter, nurture and spiritual fellowship of the children of God.”

Our responsibility to the emerging needs of our community is addressed through the ministries of FPC-Gastonia in the following ways:

  • Hundreds of children received new shoes for school this fall
  • Students are given backpacks of food to take home each weekend so that they would have nourishment
  • Homebound members receive care packages four times a year reminding them they are not alone
  • Support to victims of natural disasters
  • Cancer patients receive handmade hats and scarves reminding them of God’s love
  • Meals on Wheels for the elderly
  • Health checks, assistance with medical information, equipment, and medication are made available through our Parish Nurse ministry
  • Hospital and nursing home visits show the tangible love of God through our members and pastors
  • Serving homeless families by hosting them at our church multiple times a year
  • Educational opportunities for all ages
  • Worship options for a variety of preferences
  • Students receive a life-changing education through our scholarships at Ebenezer School in Malawi and our partnership with Primitiva Church in Guatemala

These faithful and loving acts we do to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
The interim pastor must be someone who is able to engage with both current and potential members. We believe this person will need to be authentic, collaborative, and able to engage the existing disciples of our church just as easily as the guests who stop in to give us a try. It will be important for the interim pastor to support the congregation and guide us through this period of transition so we can continue to further our mission and purpose during the time between installed ministers. Our church has both a traditional service, as well as a blended, informal service. As the informal service is the more recent addition to our worship ministries, the interim pastor shall seek to be able to help both services continue to meet the needs of worshippers and to maintain balance in our worship opportunities.
