Brief Church Mission Statement:

The mission of Windsor Presbyterian Church is to serve Jesus Christ as a loving community in which to grow in faith, unconditionally accepting and supporting all people as children of God.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

WPC strives to be a safe place for people to come and grow in faith, confident in a community that welcomes all God’s children with love and without judgment. We are an eclectic group, made up of individuals and families of varied talents, interests, backgrounds, means and occupations, some whose ties to WPC go back decades, some who are new to the church and many in between.

We continually seek God’s direction in how to live our lives individually and as a congregation. We are small enough to notice when someone is missing. We are a loving environment free of gossip and negativity and accept people to “come as they are.” Wherever a person might be on their faith journey, they are welcome here. We support each other through the good and bad in prayer and celebration, with spiritual and material sustenance.  We look forward to worship to renew our spirit, deepen our faith and connect with each other. Fellowship is a big part of who we are; we share joys and concerns openly, we laugh with each other, we feel connected as a congregation and we have events throughout the year to celebrate each other. We provide ways to allow our members to be involved – a thriving choir, Bible study, Praise Group for contemporary music in worship, book club, participation in worship, volunteering in our ministries, serving on committees, being a caring Deacon or just being in church on Sunday morning. We love God, we love each other, and we welcome all.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Residing in a historical church building, WPC is centrally located in Windsor, CA, a block from shops, restaurants, and our Town Green where the community gathers for events, concerts, and farmers’ markets. We pursue our mission in action and financial support, as seen in our recent stewardship campaign, support of special offerings and a successful capital campaign allowing us to purchase our church building, providing us with the stability desired to continue our efforts.

Our little church has a big heart, lofty aspirations and is dedicated to serving our broader community.  We started a free food pantry with just a few loaves of bread to share. Today we gather food from 2 local markets and a local food bank, providing free food for 40+ families (and a few congregation members) weekly. There are no requirements for anyone requesting free food. We also opened a free clothes closet providing gently used clothing to adults and children. Our clothes closet served a great need for those who lost all in the recent wildfires in our area. We provide space for several user groups throughout the week – from AA groups to Food Addiction to Al Anon to a mobile health clinic – our building and space is well utilized

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
Our new pastor will provide leadership and a reliable Sunday presence, effectively communicating God’s word to current and prospective church members.  This pastor will inspire and encourage us to find new ways to live a life according to Christ’s teachings. Our new pastor will be engaged in our ministries to guide us in God’s calling to serve our community. Our new pastor will lead us in expanding our presence in the community. Windsor has a significant Hispanic population who we want to serve more so language skills and cultural awareness will be desirable. With the pastor’s help and guidance, we will continue and expand our outreach programs serving our community. Our congregation is aging, so to continue our ministries we seek new members. This position will be instrumental in meeting that challenge.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

Our new pastor will have a strong theological and Biblical knowledge, bringing the Scriptures into today’s environment. We seek a powerful, liturgically well-schooled speaker and teacher, who is creative in worship while maintaining traditions. This pastor will bring their love for teaching, their cheerful and positive attitude, knack for storytelling, energy, sense of humor, and gift for delivering inspiring and educational sermons to WPC. We have an emerging music program that is thriving so tying the music into the worship experience is important. We are an inclusive church welcoming all so this position requires cultural and diversity awareness. Additionally, this person will have demonstrated in some way their compassion, kindness, and talent for listening, as well as dedication to pastoral care.

Strong spiritual stewardship skills are desired to help us maintain and grow our community. Our new pastor will be the “hub” of the wheel; aware of all going on in the church, guiding and supporting the various ministries allowing them to do their work. Serving as moderator of our Session, this position requires diplomacy and tact while being able to move forward, placing the church’s best interests first.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

Our church turns to its pastor to walk with us in our journeys of life, to see that our eyes remain wide open to discern the presence of God with us and to share in the moments of joy and sadness of our community.  We expect that our pastor will enliven our imaginations, strengthen our resolve, and push us to serve God and humankind to the fullest of our potential.  This work is carried out in building and sustaining relationships, as well as fulfilling these areas of responsibility:

  • Lead Sunday worship seeking active participation from the congregation
  • Be active in and aware of our ministries and their committees
  • Moderate and lead our Session
  • Support our outreach ministries
  • Be visible in our community
  • Be a presence to draw people to the church
  • Engage fully in the life of the church
  • Lead us spiritually in stewardship and finances

  • Pastoral care (including for shut-ins) and counseling
  • Christian Education
  • Personnel and Administrative issues
  • Membership and Evangelism
  • Community Outreach.
