Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church is a diverse congregation united by the love of Jesus Christ, passionately committed to spiritual growth through preaching, teaching, and Christ-centered worship, and specifically aimed toward equipping believers for service that reflects the grace of God to all people.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Since the organization of Hodges Boulevard Church in 1991, we have felt called to start a congregation that was extremely welcoming of all people. Our goals to nurture a close-knit congregation and share the love of Jesus Christ and our Christian faith to the community have prevailed through the years. We sincerely live our vision, both reaching and surpassing our goals. We are prayerfully embarking towards the call of our next pastor.

Because of the love of Jesus Christ, our church is a congregation which:

● Implements and embodies our mission statement

● Appreciates a variety of music and worship styles

● Is inclusive and accepting

● Is sensitive to religious, social, cultural, and racial issues

● Voluntarily provides care for others

● Actively supports local, national, and international missions

● Participates in lifelong learning


 

We hope to broaden our vision by increasing:

● The number of fellowship events

● Our number of volunteers

● Support in our youth/young adult ministry

● Our physical plant, as needed

 


This vision is lived out through:

● Meaningful traditional/contemporary worship

● An active Sunday School program for all ages

● A caring, diverse congregation, responding to immediate needs within our congregation, community, and beyond, including participation in Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

● Small groups for prayer, study, and support

● A well-functioning session and diaconate

● A successful pre-school

● Fellowship events

● Financial support and participation in youth ministry

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

The needs of most communities change and evolve. Ours is no exception. With God’s direction, we are constantly looking towards the future and earnestly trying to prepare and respond to both expected and unexpected changes and situations.

To address the emerging needs of our community, our church reaches out to:

● Unconditionally invite, welcome, and include all people to our worship services and activities

● Emphasize that our congregation cares for each other by providing needed services and random acts of kindness

● Provide educational opportunities for all ages

● Expand our participation in local missions

● Promote national and international mission projects through financial gifts and mission trips

● Offer Wednesday night dinners and engaging programs

● Offer opportunities for local groups to use our facilities

● Provide information about existing, local social services (i.e., Hubbard House, Arlington Community Services, etc.)

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

A church grows through God’s grace and our faithfulness to God’s call in our lives. It also grows because of purposeful commitments by the congregation and pastor. When the pastor and the congregants have a mutual God-driven vision of living their faith, amazing results occur. Therefore, this position is of paramount importance to reach our vision and mission goals.

We pray the pastor who is called to this position will:

● Be inviting and welcoming to people of all backgrounds

● Offer wisdom and compassionate pastoral care to all

● Enjoy planning and implementing creative worship services that use a variety of musical instruments and styles

● Be a support to the youth ministry

● Be a dynamic and innovative speaker and educator to energize our members to more active service

● Actively participate in our outreach programs (i.e., Family Promise, Mission House, etc.)

● Be a realistic, organized, and effective leader and trainer

● Delegate appropriate responsibilities to staff and expect accountability from them

● Use a variety of methods to communicate with members

● Have respect and appreciation for individual’s contributions

● Assist with identifying members’ gifts and incorporating their gifts into service

● Actively promote ecumenical and interfaith missions

● Help us adjust to changes as they occur

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

There are many tasks, responsibilities, and program areas that compose the work of a congregation. One person cannot single-handedly accomplish all of these. However, with leadership delegation and cooperative assistance from church members, our church can soar to new heights.

We pray our next pastor, with help from God and our membership, will accept the following responsibilities:

● Organize and lead worship services with help from the worship mission team

● Prepare and preach sermons that challenge, encourage, uplift, inspire, and are applicable and relevant

● Support youth leaders

● Provide pastoral care

● Help new members to become involved in church mission teams

● Moderate session meetings

● Attend diaconate meetings as needed

● Support and participate in fellowship events

● Support mission endeavors

● Understand and respect church budgets and financial matters, and help generate a budget that fulfills all of the ministries we are called by God to accomplish

● Advocate for diversity and inclusion

● Manage church staff

● Help facilitate capital campaigns, when the needs arise

● Meet, interact, and collaborate with our Preschool Director

● Not be Superman or Superwoman
