Brief Church Mission Statement:

“First Presbyterian Church, A Christian community, welcomes all people and equips them to proclaim, witness and teach the good news of Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and caring service.”

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

As one of the first congregations in this historically rich community, we acknowledge our great legacy of hope, faith and honor through Christ, our Lord. We invite people to know the joy of what it means to be in Christ. The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville wants its doors open to all ages, knowing that young people are the key to our future. We want to worship God and to know Christ and his liberating power for our lives through the leading of the Holy Spirit. We wish to have a fresh sense of the Holy Spirit working among us to discern the path that God wants us to follow in spreading the love of Christ throughout our community.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

After a 42 year pastorate, we as a congregation are wading in to mostly unfamiliar waters. We are excited by the prospect of becoming more responsive to the needs of our community by increasing congregational involvement and serving others. We have long supported people in need through the Associated Charities. Our current programs include an after school elementary program for the community (Transformation Tuesday) and senior adult ministries (SAMS Club). Additionally our Sunday service is broadcasted twice a week on local television. Our building is open to other community activities, for example, Scouts, Blood Bank, and voting polls. Recently we participated in Sole Hope. We are excited about a new venture, Fifth Friday, beginning in 2018. This program will serve free dinners to the community. It is our call, as the body of Christ, to serve our community with as much grace, dignity and self-awareness as God may grant us.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

Our hope is to find a leader who feels it is God’s will for him/her to collaborate with us in transition, be it spiritual, administrative or philosophical. While change can be hard; perhaps with the right questions being asked by a leader with a passion for Christ, we will find the way less daunting and more enlightening as we seek to discover and follow the path that God would have us take.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

We are ready to move forward. We require an energetic leader capable of respect, empathy, and patience; a leader of conviction whose ideas are bold and derived through experience and adversity, yet anchored in the spirit of the Living Christ. We require a leader who listens, nurtures, challenges, and laughs with us, with a compassionate and caring spirit of understanding.
