Living Hope Presbyterian Church seeks to inspire and empower through the Gospel.

We are a welcoming congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) located on the same campus as the Dickson Hollow senior Living Community. Our vision is to live our core values and build on our passion:

· We gather to hear the Word and celebrate the Sacraments in response to God’s call to us. Worship is the heart of our faith community.

· We are inspired by the Word to be the hands and feet of Christ: locally, nationally, and globally.

· We support one another through prayer and visitation.

· We experience learning and fellowship through church school, small groups, and other gatherings.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Worship is the heart of our faith community. We gather to hear the word through a traditional service and celebrate the sacraments in response to God’s call to us. Sunday and special services feature music by occasional soloists, musicians, and a church choir.

We are inspired to be the hands and feet of Christ locally, nationally, and globally. We are a very generous church, with a strong stewardship tradition, which helps to fuel our passion for mission.  Some of these ministries include Larry Under the Bridge (food for homeless), local food pantries, and various local charities. We are also active with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

We support one another through prayer, with Deacon visits, sending greeting cards, and monthly home communion to those not able to attend in person. During worship we share Joys and Concerns both for those in the congregation and for the larger world.

We experience learning and fellowship with a bi-monthly youth Christian education program that also focuses on youth mission projects. We offer weekly Bible Study, Friday Prayer Group, Women’s Circles and other special events that welcome our friends at Dickson Hollow, a senior living community.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Living Hope has a unique partnership with Dickson Hollow, where we have dedicated office space and a shared sanctuary and fellowship hall. We cultivate a caring and inclusive atmosphere where members and guests feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged as God’s people. We strive to accept everyone wherever they are on life’s journey. The collaboration between Dickson Hollow and Living Hope affords the church the opportunity to utilize the talents of both the church members and the residents of Dickson Hollow.

Our location, near growing neighborhood developments, along with the needs of the children of our congregation inspires us to be intentionally intergenerational.  Our children love the missional connection of our ministry, so we have created a curriculum that demonstrates, through outreach, an awareness of and a concern for the larger community.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

The pastor will be a facilitator and supporter of our ongoing vision, working collaboratively with our church leaders, members, participants, and visitors.

The pastor will be someone with a deep, non-judgmental faith, and a contagious enthusiasm that shows both in sermons and mission work.  This person will continue to bring people together and foster a closer, more caring community.  Also, the pastor will help the congregation connect with both Dickson Hollow residents and the surrounding neighborhoods to help strengthen the relationships already present and build new ones that benefit God’s kingdom.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

The congregation of Living Hope Presbyterian Church is looking to call a pastor who can preach a sermon that inspires all to follow Jesus in their daily lives.  We would like someone with a teaching presence. This will require a strong knowledge of Christ and a personal relationship with Him in order to help us grow in our spiritual journeys. We need someone who has a strong passion for mission. We have always been a mission-driven congregation, seeking innovative and fresh ideas to guide us to go out beyond our walls and bring Christ’s love to the world through our mission work.

We are looking for someone who lives a life of faith that can inspire us to lead better lives. We are not looking for perfection, but instead for someone who is humble and remains aware of his/her own shortcomings; someone with a kind, helpful, patient, and empathetic heart.

Our new pastor will need strong leadership qualities. Organizational and management skills will be required for this part-time job. The person we call will have the ability to make decisions and the humility to know when an idea will not work. Courage, imagination, and flexibility are also qualities that will be needed when dealing with difficult or unanticipated events.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

For this 25-30 hour a week position:
-   Lead worship on Sunday mornings as well as special services, preach and administer the sacraments, planning in conjunction with the worship committee, and utilizing church office resources. 

-   Moderate meetings of the session and of the congregation, planned in consultation with the clerk of session.

-   Attend deacon meetings as a resource and provide pastoral care of the congregation in support of the board of deacons.   Administer the sacraments for homebound members in conjunction with the deacons.

-   Lead a weekly Bible study.

-   Support committees or ad-hoc groups of session.

-   As time permits, along with the session/deacons/congregation, seek out connections in Dickson Hollow and neighboring communities to help Living Hope’s presence be known.
