Brief Church Mission Statement:
Making God's Love Visible!
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Making God’s Love Visible is Trinity’s mission. It describes the big idea; why we exist and in service to whom, but it’s really general, isn’t it? Like any 62-year-old, Trinity has evolved through phases – with varying degrees of kingdom success. Throughout, we’ve held fast to our culture as a church where messy, certain, unclear and hopeful faith in Jesus can be explored and experienced, and all variety of people are invited.

We are passionate about honestly-lived discipleship; care for one another; welcome of the stranger; worship; service to the hungry/homeless; and always curious about ways to proclaim Jesus’ radical hope to the world! Mid-COVID, and without a pastor, this vision is being lived out by:

  • Hosting guest preachers to conduct live Sunday worship (in person & online – including with another congregation)

  • Engaging our three Commissioned Lay Pastors in worship, pastoral care and teaching

  • Connecting bimonthly with all members and friends through our 5-member Every Member  Care Team
  • Sponsoring Presbyterian Women’s activities

  • Participating in PC(USA) offerings and Per Capita giving

  • Communicating through our website and emailed Flock Note updates, daily devotionals, and
prayer requests; as well as the monthly Trumpet newsletter

  • Contributing to Ogden school aid, hunger and homelessness ministries

  • Hosting AA meetings

  • Sharing space with an Hispanic congregation
  • Opening our classroom doors on school days to OWLS, a home-school organization
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Trinity draws its members from the greater Ogden area. Some live down the street, others 20 miles away. Representation from many different neighborhoods helps make us more aware of needs in Northern Utah.
Trinity’s outreach has uniquely included caring/assistance for migrant workers, refugees and persons with disabilities. Even during COVID, you can see us collecting food for the food pantry and a
program to aid hungry kids on weekends at home. We support an annual coat drive, serve meals at the White Center, and volunteer at the homeless shelter. Every fall, Trinity donates thousands of school supplies to kids in need. A Christmas wouldn’t be complete without our Mitten Tree covered in gloves, hats, scarves and socks for the needy. Trinity is also a More Light Presbyterian Congregation open to welcoming the LGBTQIA+ community into full participation in our church.

We’re always seeking ways to engage in the community. A recent member survey indicates we’d like to do more to aid Ogden’s hungry and homeless. We would also like to engage more with our neighborhood, including the Hispanic community, to let them know of the Spanish “Word of Life” congregation at Trinity. Trinity members have also expressed hope about opening our building to more community groups, and have noted interest in sharing ministry with other Ogden churches.

As we envision our future, we know being a vital church is always a kind of rebirth and a process of finding new ways to serve God in our community.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

In this time without a pastor, Trinity’s Commissioned Lay Pastors, Session elders and others have done an admirable job of maintaining worship and the sacraments, providing pastoral care (including memorial celebrations), offering (limited) fellowship, communicating with church members and friends, and serving and reaching out to school children, and the hungry and the homeless in the Ogden community. But we need a shepherd dedicated to our flock to keep it all going, and to emerge refreshed into the future!

The position of pastor – even one working only 20 hours per week – will enable us to better and more consistently reach our vision and mission by:

  • Providing for consistent and theologically informed preaching and celebration of the sacraments (and may help us decide if that’s to be every week or on a more inventive schedule to include Christian Ed and/or service projects)

  • Coordinating pastoral care and nurture through CLP’s and our Care Team

  • Inspiring fellowship as opportunities arise

  • Supporting development of Christian Education

  • Working with other staff and Session in coordinating administration of church finances,
communication, building care and use

  • Speaking up and out on behalf of Trinity, inviting others in and encouraging righteousness

Encouraging this community to envision new ways of being “church” within our means
and/or with other local congregations
