Brief Church Mission Statement:
Westminster Presbyterian Church exists to declare God’s love for all through Jesus Christ, to nurture and encourage spiritual growth, to maintain the integrity of divine worship, and to share the love and joy found in Christ by giving ourselves to our community and to the world.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Westminster Presbyterian Church’s vision for ministry is informed by the Six Great Ends of the Church as described in Scripture and defined in our Book of Order.
In working toward our vision we desire to be a welcoming place where we strive to follow the teachings of Scripture through traditional worship and living the Beatitudes. We seek to proclaim God’s truth as declared in Scripture and live out our vision through education and evangelism as well as our participation in community organizations and non-profits by way of volunteer hours and financial support. We understand ourselves to be called by Christ to seek God’s justice and provide a safe place to worship for all.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
We feel that one of our most valuable assets is our diverse population of members with various personal and professional talents, ready and willing to volunteer as needs emerge. We will continue community outreach through programs in which we are already highly participatory through both volunteer work and financial support such as Love in the Name of Christ, Christian Women’s Job Corp, Christian Men’s Job Corp Community Rx and local schools. We would like to form partnerships with other churches in the community, especially through youth programs, to engage in special ministry and mission projects.
Our desire is to become more transparent to the community about the wonderful things that are happening at our church as we also strive to help members become more comfortable in speaking about their faith. We hope to reach out specifically to the youth, widows, widowers, single parents, and visitors of our church through evangelism and fellowship. Our prayer is to cover our community with the resources necessary to meet its present and emerging needs.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
An Associate Pastor will provide new energy and a fresh perspective with which to improve current church programs as well as develop new ones. He or she will work to increase involvement in those programs, publicize our church to the community, and enhance our outreach. One focus should be on congregational growth with an emphasis on young families. The Associate Pastor should also reach out to those of other churches and faiths to form relationships and build on what we have in common.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
Most importantly, we are committed to finding an Associate Pastor who loves as Christ loves, will guide us in the ways of Jesus Christ, has high regard for the authority of scripture, and maintains the values of traditional reformed worship. Our congregation is seeking an outgoing, charismatic, and passionate leader who will be dedicated to Westminster and to the Nacogdoches community and who feels that ministry is not a job but a calling to serve. The ideal person will be well organized and possess skills in administration, communication, and technology that will serve to improve our programs, increase our outreach, and expand our presence on social media. This energetic self-motivator will challenge us to grow spiritually while maintaining the integrity of our Reformed theology and practice. He or she will also be active in the community as an evangelical presence, be interested in and committed to helping those in need, and provide an open door and listening ear to members of our congregation.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
One of the primary tasks for this person will be generating growth within the church and specifically catering to youth and young families. The Associate Pastor will work with the Senior Pastor to direct the Christian Education program to include the children’s, youth, and college ministries, as well as generate Sunday School attendance. He or she should be active in the community and should be a presence on local school campuses, to include Stephen F. Austin State University, where we hope to reach more university students. This person will be in charge of blogging, social media and general publicity for Westminster in the community. The Associate Pastor will be expected to work with our pastor to plan the Lord’s Day worship and other worship experiences and preach 10-12 times per year, make visits to members in hospitals and their homes. The Associate Pastor will complement the Senior Pastor and over time grow in pastoral duties with an emphasis on evangelism and youth, while relating to members of all ages.
