What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

We have a church in which the members of the congregation support all of the outreach programs, serve on boards and committees, and take on leadership positions. We hope for a transition that will allow for the continuation of growth, energy, momentum, inspiration, expansion, and financial contribution. Pastoral leadership is a necessary component in moving our church forward and keeping our congregation focused on, dedicated to, and excited for doing God’s work. We hope to meet the challenges of a changing congregation.  We hope to continue the programs for our children and youth that have been attractive to young families.  Through our new member orientation we stress the responsibilities of being part of the body of Christ: discipleship (learning to “walk the walk” of being a Christian), stewardship (making a commitment of time, talents, and money), and service (accepting God’s call to share his love with others). We hope to continue being open and accepting and inclusive. We believe wholeheartedly in our motto “Love grows here” because we are willing to challenge ourselves to accept the unacceptable, tolerate the intolerable, and love the unlovable. We seek pastoral leadership that will foster openness and deal with its challenges and pastoral leadership that can balance varied opinions.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Our small church is rich with opportunities to serve. We begin with the faithful offering of our financial blessings. We have strived to take ten percent of every dollar given to the church and give it to mission causes at home and abroad. Our members invest their time, talents and resources to support the following local ministries: Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, Car Clinic, Angel Tree, and Outreach Fund. Our church facility is also used by the following organizations: United Way of Erie County VITA Program, Alcoholics Anonymous, Neuro-Restorative, Girl Scouts, F.L.A.G. Little League, Fairview Parks & Recreation, West County Lions Club, and Yellow Dragon School of Taijiquan.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

The congregation at Fairview Presbyterian Church knows that the ministries of this church have made a difference in the lives of many people in our little corner of the world. From the pulpit our members have been challenged to be more Christ-like: more loving, more generous, more accepting, more compassionate, and more faithful. Today we are more of what a Christian should be, but we are not perfect Christians. We still need dedicated pastoral leadership. We still need a spiritual leader. We are not a large church, but we have a large “heart” as a church. We serve our community well. Now we look to the future to build upon what we have begun here. We need a new pastor with a vision of how he or she can move us forward and help us to achieve the following goals: to strengthen our commitment to mission work locally and afar; to grow our Christian Education and youth programs, to fulfill our financial obligations, to reenergize our church committees, to develop ways to market FPC, and to create a vision for our music ministry.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

The pastor will serve as Head of Staff; lead worship and preach at regular Sunday services and at special services such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve; administer the Sacraments; call on the sick and homebound; visit shut-ins to administer elements of communion; act in an advisory capacity to provide administrative leadership; officiate at weddings and funerals; provide pre-wedding and grief counseling; lead new member classes; work with committee chairs; represent the church in dealing with outside organizations; actively support the missions and ministries of the church; actively support the youth program of the church; lead spiritual growth of church members forward; be a teacher of the Bible; be present and visible at church events.
