Brief Church Mission Statement:

As children of God, we worship to renew our faith through the Word, prayer, music, and fellowship.

As followers of Jesus, we serve our neighbors with compassion, offering hope and healing.

As heirs of the Holy Spirit, we invite and welcome all with love to enjoy God’s grace.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Our vision for ministry is to welcome all people to worship God and to join us in renewing our faith through the Word, meaningful prayer, inspiring music, and strong fellowship. By sharing this ministry, we strive to cultivate God’s love and grow His family of faith throughout our congregation, our community, and our world at large.

This vision is lived out by our need to want to continue to make our church better. As our members look to the future, our top four goals are:
     - Make necessary changes to attract families with children and youth to our church.
     - Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reach new people and incorporate them into the life of the church.
     - Provide more opportunities for Christian education and spiritual formation at every age and stage of life.
     - Develop ministries that work toward healing those broken by life circumstances.

Our mission study tells us that the majority of our church feels some level of change is needed to realize our vision for the church. We seem to be content with who we are and what we do, but need to rethink the mission of our church and how we reach people. We need to find the gifts and interests of our congregation and use those gifts to develop meaningful ministries. And furthermore, our congregation needs to continually support these ministries with energy and enthusiasm.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Our mission study helped us focus on ways to address the emerging needs of our community in the following ways:

1. Continue and strengthen our present community missions which we serve host to: Jack & Jill Preschool, Garden of Edin Community Garden, Narcotics Anonymous, weekly Yoga classes, and the Shared Hospital Equipment Distribution.

2. Create and support new community outreach.

3. Worship: Provide inspirational, inclusive, welcoming worship experiences that give new meaning to life through prayer, liturgy, music, and the Word. Make necessary changes to the style of worship to attract families and youth to our church.

4. Ministry: Sustain a community of care and concern toward our congregation in times of need. Serve those in our congregation, community, and world broken by life circumstances. Increase the spirit of involvement in ministry.

5. Education: Help each person discern their spiritual gifts and experience God’s presence in their life through Bible Study for all ages of life.

6. Governance: Through the assistance of our pastor, equip church leaders to develop and implement strategies to achieve financial stability, reach new people, and increase energy and commitment to the life of the church.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We are looking for a leader who can think outside of the box, come up with new ideas, and help energize and excite us. Someone who will share a passion in our visions and goals. Someone who will help to equip and lead us in the right direction in order to better do the work of the Lord. Together with the pastor, we would like to:

1. Become more involved in fellowship activities, education, and committee work to invigorate our church.

2. Strategize ways to reach new people and incorporate them into the life of the church and make changes to attract younger families to ensure future growth.

3. Help reduce anxiety by keeping the congregation informed about new ideas and upcoming changes.

4. Develop new stewardship strategies to increase financial giving to support new ministries and missions.

5. Equip all church teams to work together to implement Session and Deacon decisions and help energize the congregation.

6. Set an example for others by speaking and living our faith.

7. Welcome visitors. Show care and concern for all.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

Our congregation is looking for a pastor who is caring and compassionate and has the ability to make personal connections and develop relationships with church members and community members. We want a pastor who is able to motivate and energize others to get involved in ministry and mission. We would like a pastor who is able to lead meaningful worship services and preach inspirational messages that are relevant, understandable, and challenging. We would like a person who has the ability to communicate in both small and large groups and can get people actively involved in learning and growing their faith. Our next pastor should be able to help foster collaboration as well as advise members. We would like someone who can see and envision the bigger picture, will come up with and organize strategies to help make the vision become a possibility, and will gently lead the congregation through the necessary changes.

The youth are the future of our church, so we asked the eleven members of our confirmation class what they would like to see in our next pastor. They came up with an individual who is kind, positive, humorous, and relatable. Someone who will make everyone feel welcome. They would like a pastor who is willing to get involved with and shares a bond with individuals of all ages, even the little kids. Someone who understands what our church needs, and is active and will keep the church active. They would also like someone who tells sermons in a story-telling way.
