What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

WORSHIP is our core strength, the source of our energy. We LEARN, LOVE, & LEAD through worship, education, fellowship & mission.

FELLOWSHIP & YOUTH: Our members love & support each other, with a high percentage of the congregation helping with visitations, rides, meals & prayers. Christian Ed. features Youth Club, VBS, & strong support for attendance at Pine Springs Camp & its scholarship fund. We have a K-8 choir that participates during the church year.

PRAYERFUL: We are a praying congregation; most members are able & willing to lead in prayer.

MISSION: SPECIAL NEEDS DANCES 3x/year in fellowship hall—about 100 attend per event. Annual VETERANS DINNER served by our youth. FARMERS MARKET weekly in our parking lot. DEACONS sponsor a Deacon Dash 5K run/1M walk & a Christmas Program for needy families. QUILT MINISTRY has made & distributed over 1700 quilts & 4000 pocket quilts. MUSIC MINISTRY showcases several free concerts annually, accompanied by an orchestra & attended by 300-350 per event. We support a licensed PRESCHOOL recognized by area teachers for excellence in preparing students for kindergarten.

UNIQUENESS: Our beautiful church is handicapped accessible (elevator to all floors) & located on historic Luzerne St., reminiscent of the setting in “It’s A Wonderful Life.” The surrounding area is rich in history & outdoor recreation opportunities—hiking, biking, camping, skiing, boating, fishing, hunting. To top it off, the cost of living is low. WE ARE AFFORDABLE!
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Our community is considered a municipality within Johnstown, 60 miles east of Pittsburgh with access to world class hospitals, universities, seminaries, cultural venues & sports teams.

We founded & continue to support a non-profit Christian counseling ministry that provides professional mental health counseling regardless of ability to pay.

Deacons provide a Christmas Program for the less fortunate in our area. In 2018 they hosted a brunch for 24 families, singing Christmas carols & handing out gifts to about 80 children! 18 families received clothing vouchers.

May-Oct we host a weekly Farmer's Market. Coffee, tea, cookies, ice cream & fellowship allow visitors & members a chance to mingle & get to know one another.

11 of us journeyed together in 2018 to aid the flooded region of Webster Springs, WV. In 2017 we focused on local mission projects, including Stackhouse Park (just down the street) which boasts 250+ acres of trails & opportunities to explore & appreciate nature. We cleaned up around the ranger's office, rebuilding steps in need of repair & provided mulch/flowers.

Let the songs of the Lord be heard! The organ (newly refurbished with 124 ranks and top-of-the-line capabilities), choir, & bell choir are strong components of our worship service. The children lend their sweet voices & abilities throughout the church year.

We want to develop & implement strategies to reach new people, especially the unchurched, & nurture ALL on a spiritual journey with our Lord!
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We are searching for a minister who will get to know us, encourage & INSPIRE each of us to walk more closely with God, & to be open to the Holy Spirit to guide our actions to further God's kingdom & His ministry for our church.

Our church is located on an avenue lined with the largest stand of American elms in the United States, which reflect the essence of God's amazing creation throughout each season. Our congregation has a rich history of SERVICE in & around our community. We are a changing congregation, looking forward to the new opportunities that this journey with a new minister will bring.

We are nestled in SW Pennsylvania in God's beautiful creation called the Laurel Highlands. You can enjoy nature in & around Johnstown in many different ways. We have hiking trails, bike paths, rivers for tubing & kayaking, lakes for boating & recreation, & beautiful sunrises & sunsets. Our Deacons hold an annual picnic at Pine Springs Camp where we can enjoy the beauty around us while we worship in this rural setting. God's hand can be seen & felt throughout all 4 seasons.

With the strengths of our location, facilities, & congregation, we seek a minister who will help us to continue to expand our ministries & outreach into the community.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

You don’t need to be Wonder Woman or Superman! We want someone REAL!

Do you have lots of positive energy, COMPASSION, & a nice smile?

Do you genuinely feel called not to just teach or lecture, but to MINISTER to this congregation & our community?

Are you APPROACHABLE, with an open-door policy?

Are you gifted at delivering sermons sprinkled with HUMOR that can be applied to everyday life?

Are you capable of forming MEANINGFUL connections with the younger members of the church?

Are you effective at MOTIVATING members to become more involved, in order to avoid burnout from those that shoulder the majority of volunteer responsibilities?

Can you be a CATALYST for growth, helping to reach the unchurched & invite them into the life of the church?

Are you capable of bringing out the best IN us & THROUGH us?

Like 49-79% of all congregations, we have experienced some conflict that has made us aware of the need for clear communication, transparency, & dependence on the Lord. We are receptive to change, but our values make us want to take those BOLD steps with a well thought-out & communicated plan as to why/how things should change.

Could you be the one being called by the HOLY SPIRIT to be a blessing to this church & our community?

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

You will be asked to follow the Book of Order list of common roles.

Because of the changing makeup of our congregation we need you to emphasize PASTORAL CARE through visitation (both hospital & homebound members), counseling those in need.

We also need you to be deeply involved in our CHILDREN & YOUTH PROGRAMS. These are the future of our church.

We expect you to take time off, ENJOY Sabbath time, & make the most of your new home nestled in the Laurel Highlands of SW PA.

Johnstown is consistently rated in the TOP 3 SAFEST US metro areas of our size for crime ( though we pray about the opioid crisis that some areas face.

Johnstown boasts good schools, a regional airport, a Level I Trauma Center, defense & hi-tech contractors, manufacturing businesses, cultural & sports amenities such as the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, the Sunnehanna Amateur Golf Tournament (ranked #2 amateur golf event in the US) & 4 universities within 30 miles, including the Univ. of Pitt. at Johnstown. An easy drive to Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, Laurel Mountain, Blue Knob, Ohiopyle, Punxsutawney Phil, Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Fallingwater, & Usonian Kentuck Knob.

You will not be alone in this ministry. On holidays we have 250-325 congregants. A typical Sunday has 125-150 in attendance. You will be surrounded & supported by a TALENTED, SKILLFUL, & LOVING COMMUNITY of FAITH. We prayerfully await meeting you!
