God calls St Mark Presbyterian Church to be a vibrant, open, diverse community of faithful, active believers. Through Spirit-filled worship, passion for God’s Word, and joyful work in service to others, we demonstrate the new life given in Christ Jesus our Lord.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

A Mission Study completed in 2016 identified four core values that shape our identity: traditional, friendly, caring, active. The study also identified our hopes and dreams for the future that compel us to expand our focus outward, not inward; external, not internal; serving, not being served.

St. Mark is known for outstanding traditional worship, preaching and music. We envision enhancing our Chancel Choir, building up children and family programs, and bringing in more guest speakers to address current issues in church and society.

The heart of our church is in its friendly people. We cultivate our relationship with God as we cultivate our relationships with each other. We envision inviting more people to worship through advertising and special services; greater involvement of new and existing members; new opportunities for fellowship.

Our faith calls us to be known by our actions as well as our convictions. We serve generously with our time, talents, and treasures. We envision providing more opportunities for hands on mission locally; increasing our percentage of mission giving; dedicating staffing for older adult ministries/programming; strengthening care and support ministries that are available through St. Mark.

St. Mark is a busy center of activity for members and the community. We envision upgrading facilities to be more accessible to church members and community groups, building up small group ministries, and enhancing technology to reach home bound church members.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

With a rich history of over 50 years, we now face important changes and exciting opportunities to meet our mission goal of more focused ministry to families with children and youth.

Our Senior Pastor is leading us as we strive to make church relevant to all our members, including our youth.  We have a Director of Children’s ministry, and we are seeking to fill an open Non-Ordained Youth Ministry Associate position.  We are looking for an Associate Pastor, who will share the hope and encouragement of our Christian faith by serving the entire congregation but primarily our youth and children.

Consistent with many churches, we face challenges to grow membership. We look to this new Associate Pastor to collaborate with us in improving and enhancing our efforts in this important area.  Our church is located in the middle of a large subdivision.  We are intentional in reaching out to our neighbors in the subdivision, as well as the community at large.  A family ministry is a focus in this outreach.  As a relational congregation, we seek to meet the worship, spiritual, and mission needs of our community.

The Associate Pastor will oversee and supervise our children’s ministry, and along with the Non-Ordained Youth Ministry Associate, will lead our youth ministry (i.e., Middle School & Senior High) and their families.  This position will provide active leadership and planning of youth programs and worship services, service projects, work trips, confirmation classes, and Bible classes.

We seek an Associate Pastor who is able to inspire, motivate and lead our youth and relate to their families. It is important that the Associate Pastor be approachable, be an excellent communicator, possess a good sense of humor, and be an involved participant in church and community life.

The Associate Pastor should be relational - generating conversation and facilitating communication to build trust, help people arrive at consensus, and motivate congregants to follow through on projects and ideas.  We seek someone with the ability to relate to youth, children, and their families.  It is especially important that this individual be able to develop close relationships with the youth by providing Christian guidance, taking an interest in their passions, extending the ministry to their families, and connecting the youth with caring adults.

The Associate Pastor should have skills to communicate a vision for youth and children’s ministries and to equip the congregation in fulfilling the vision. To work well with staff and lay leaders, communication skills are essential, including the use of social media.

The Associate Pastor should have organizational skills, including the ability to plan and organize children and youth programs and worship services, service projects, work trips, confirmation classes and bible classes.

We seek to reach-out and minister to the needs of our neighbors and community while building membership.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

Provide additional pastoral depth to support the mission of the Church and the needs of the congregation.  Give direction and leadership in Family Ministry and Community Building, including the areas of Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Adult Christian Education.

  • Along with an incoming Non-Ordained Youth Ministry Associate, provide active leadership and planning for the Middle School and Senior High Youth Program and their families, so the youth have a particular pastor to whom to relate.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of the Director of Children’s Ministry and the Youth Ministry Associate.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in youth worship services and service projects, work trips, special trips, and activities away from the church.
  • Oversee all communications regarding Middle School and Senior High youth.
  • Provide staff support for the Youth Committee, including participation at its meetings and related meetings.
  • Lead and facilitate Confirmation Classes.
  • Work with youth and build community with an emphasis on family ministry.
  • Provide active pastoral leadership to the boards, committees, and groups of the church.
  • Participate in membership visitation.
  • Coordinate with head of staff and Stephen Ministry to provide pastoral care and counseling.
  • Coordinate intergenerational church interaction.
  • Preach on a predetermined schedule.
Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Head of Staff.
