Brief Church Mission Statement:
We at First Presbyterian Church are a caring Christian community.  We come together to worship God, study the Bible, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, and equip each person for spiritual growth and service.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
First Presbyterian's vision of ministry is Seek, Share, Serve.  We help others in need through outreach and evangelism, Christian education, and spiritual growth to worship and praise God through Jesus Christ.
We live out our outreach and evangelism in several ways.  We assist monthly with a food distribution, Stuff the Bus with school supplies annually, give out food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, partner with Habitat for Humanity, and we are the charter organization for Boy Scout Troop 119 for over 80 years.  We support our own Kristin Hamner and her ministry in the Dominican Republic. We support world wide Presbyterian missions, such as Blanket Sunday, and offerings such as Christmas Joy, Pentecost, Peace and Global Witness, and Presbyterian Disaster Relief. Our Middle and High School youth participate in Mission trips annually.
The Ministry of Christian Education/Spiritual Growth is lived out through several social events during the year, including Sunday School for all ages, weekly worship services, Presbyterian Preschool, Youth on Wednesday, confirmation classes, adult Bible Studies, Vacation Bible School, Lenten Studies and encouraging one another in growth and faith.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Grand Island, Nebraska is a very diverse community, racially, ethnically, and socio-economically.  Our community has a significant immigrant population that includes a Sudanese ministry that worships in our building, and which we would like to further integrate into our congregation.  Our community has a higher than state average poverty level as well as a higher than average single mother rate. These are emerging needs of our community that our church is addressing through co-sponsorship of  a mobile food bank, and providing food baskets during the holiday season. There is opportunity for more impactful outreach to meet the needs of these populations. Grand Island also has many families with young children.  We currently reach out to these families through our thriving preschool, Wednesday night youth program, and a Sunday School program with growth potential.  Our church is ready to go beyond our doors and reach those outside of our walls by meeting them where they are.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
The Solo Pastor of this congregation will be responsible for supporting endeavors to care for each other and our community.  This person will lead the congregation in Spirit-filled worship, Bible study and community evangelism. The pastor will fully engage with the congregation by directing the church staff, being present at church functions, and attending committee meetings.  Visibility in the community is essential to fulfilling our vision of Seek, Share, Serve.
