Brief Church Mission Statement:
Guided by the Holy Spirit, we seek to present the love of God to the Axtell Community and beyond.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Axtell First Presbyterian Church is called to grow in relationship with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit and through that close relationship, to grow in wisdom, faith and devotion.  We are further led to share our maturing wisdom, faith and devotion with our families, our neighbors, and our world as we encourage others to explore their own relationships with God.  We are committed to continue to care for the needs of our neighbors, expand our education offerings and incorporate more styles of music in worship to reach all ages while remaining focused on God.  We are implementing new methods of communication to involve our congregation and community.  We are trying to strengthen relationships among current members and with newcomers; and building on our willingness to work together and appreciate one another.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
We envision First Presbyterian Church as a powerful, spiritual influence in our community, honoring Christ through worship, service and fellowship.  We carry the church into our neighborhood as we strive to serve as positive role models and open our hand and hearts to people in need.  We value being an intergenerational congregation and seek opportunities for all to grow in faith and discipleship.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
This position will become a leader for the congregation.  We want to be known in the community as a congregation that is full of outreach to the community and is willing to accept everyone into our church family.  We need new, creative ideas.  There will need to be communication with other area churches.  This position will need to work with the elders and deacons so that we can be able to reach out to those in the community and show them the love we have for God.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
We would like to see this person as an outgoing, integral part of the community.  We need someone that is fun, loves youth, energetic, social, caring and empathetic.  This person must be able to inspire from the pulpit.  We are looking for someone that has different ideas for an engaging worship service.  This person must be computer and technologically inclined.  We will expect this person to be able to visit the elderly in nursing homes as well as visit the personal homes of the congregation and newcomers to the community.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
Tasks and assignments will include preaching, funerals, baptisms, communion, and visiting shut-ins.  We will need them to be a part of the community as well as our church.  They will attend school functions and support the community as a whole.  This person will lead or attend committee meetings.  They will be required to counsel, perform weddings, negotiate conflict and moderate the session.  We will need confirmation classes as the youth become that age.  We expect them to do hospital visits as well as nursing home visits.
