Brief Church Mission Statement:
Our mission: By the grace of Jesus Christ, we are called to worship God, to connect in community, to nurture in love, and to serve the world. Our vision: Palms is a diverse and transformative community of believers embodying the grace of Christ by serving as bridge builders for a divided world, working as ambassadors for compassion and reconciliation, and growing servant leaders for God’s work in a rapidly changing world. Our values: Compassion and love, spiritual growth, service and connection, creative spirit, honesty and integrity.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Palms is a Matthew 25 church called to serve the marginalized in our community and the world beyond. Our vision is to be bridge builders, ambassadors, and servant leaders. We welcome all who seek a place to worship by sharing our traditional yet highly-creative, imaginative, and biblically-based worship experience. Our worship ministry includes an inspiring music program. We extend hospitality to all and offer individuals and families a place to discern their gifts and serve God in profound and meaningful ways. We include all ages in our multi-generational fellowship and Christian education, and nurture and enrich our large senior membership. We embrace our theological diversity, knowing we are bound together as one through God’s love. Palms has benefited from the stewardship of our congregation by raising more than $12 million since 2004 for church facilities, renovation and maintenance. We have the resources to embrace exciting new opportunities for mission and programs that will have meaningful impact on our disciples, the community and the world at large. We connect disciples with each other and with our many programs. Palms strives for continuous improvement and evolution, building on our current strong foundation. Within the church, we seek fair, transparent, and organized governance and staffing aligned to the session and engaged with our congregation.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Mission is vitally important in the life of Palms. Palms is hands on and generous with financial support. The church plays a leadership role in the community, supporting critical services like BEAM (emergency services) and Mission House (homeless mission). Palms provides snacks and school supplies to local elementary schools. Palms created Kids’ Kitchen and supplies bags of food weekly in the summer to low-income families. Palms partnered with an elementary school, a neighborhood church and BEAM to establish bi-monthly food distribution for hundreds of families living in the area of a food desert. Additionally, Palms volunteers serve weekly at BEAM’s food pantry. Palms hosted Common Grounds community dialogue programs, bringing people with different viewpoints together to build consensus. Palms Preschool, with an enrollment of 140 children, maintains a stellar reputation. Palms also offers its facilities to community organizations including Alcoholics Anonymous, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s support groups, community choirs and Girl Scout troops. This heart for mission extends internationally through Palms’ partnership with Haiti Outreach Ministries. Prior to Covid, mission groups visited Haiti each year, bringing medical, educational, construction, and clean water supplies. Palms also supports missions in Cape Town, South Africa and the Egyptian Presbytery in Cairo.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

Palms seeks an Associate Pastor who, with compassion and spirituality, will join our pastor in providing disciple care, preaching, teaching, and in conducting weddings, funerals, and other services.  The Associate Pastor will joyfully, energetically and creatively work with disciples to enhance our mission work in the community, nationally and globally.  This individual will work with the Deacons through their ten ministries to nurture our congregation. We welcome our Associate Pastor to use innovative methods to increase the connectivity and involvement of all disciples. To grow and expand our local community and worldwide efforts, we expect the Associate Pastor to be a participant and bridge builder with local faith communities, mission partners and key community leaders including mayors, council members, Beaches Ministerial Association and leaders of various non-profit organizations in the beach communities.

In assuming responsibility for effective leadership of the Serve and Connection Ministries, the Associate Pastor will be a bridge builder to the local and world community, reaching out to all in Christ-like humility and caring.
