Together, our vision is to make an impact for God by helping our congregations and communities understand the enriching messages of eternal hope given to us by Jesus Christ through His words and deeds.

1. What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Zion Irving Lutheran Church is a country church serving the farming community in rural Paynesville for over 100 years. Our vision is to be a strong church in our community where everyone is welcome and the church will help where needed. We have an active Ladies group that does missionary work through the local food shelves, schools and hospitals in the surrounding communities. Any and all visitors are warmly greeted and welcomed in our church famil

2. How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
During COVID-19 pandemic we opened our doors as soon as we could to in person services before that there were daily email devotions. We have been in a yoked ministry for 45 years and it’s worked very well for both of us. During the church year we share Lenten services which include Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve services. There is also a joint summer service with a picnic lunch and fellowship at a local park |
3. How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
A successful candidate will assist in the strong parish bond and to help grow each congregation. We each are very small churches that would love to grow. Families with younger children are a very small portion of our church and our Sunday School is very small now.

4. Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
We are looking for a candidate that will honor our traditions and work with those who help within the church. We have awesome lay people that lead the services and Confirmation classes, but they also have full time jobs. Most of our members are middle age to senior citizens with a few families with kids from quite young through teenagers. We’d like someone who will work with us and understand that change while can be good it will be hard to make lots of changes. Humor and flexibility are a must as well as being relatable to all.
|
5. What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
The minister leads Sunday services and monthly Communion. There are also all the holiday services as mentioned above and services for nursing homes, this is a rotation schedule. Home and hospital visits as needed or requested. The minister also attends all Synod/Presbytery meetings as required by both churches.
