What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
It is the mission of Faith Presbyterian Church to be a progressive people of faith reaching out through the generations – strong, bold, energized. Faith-Future-Hope.
We live out this vision by extending our WOW (Worship on Wednesday) program to those who are not currently members. Some of these families have now joined our church family. We care deeply for our church and want it to continue to grow. |
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
Our Deacons are reaching out to those going through difficult times by visiting the sick and home bound, sending cards to those going through medical issues or treatment and even bringing meals to help support these people. We also participate in the community Backpack Program which supplies snacks to children who are not able to afford them.
We have a Parish Nurse come to our church once a month to check blood pressure and to help members keep up-to-date with health concerns. She is part of Common Cup Ministries which we support by donating diapers and other items they need for their community outreach.
We want to be more visible in the community and would like someone to help lead our congregation to reach out to those looking for a place to show their faith. We are an open and welcoming people of faith. Our congregation is active and engaged in the work of the church. When there’s a need for people to serve on committees, serve refreshments for our coffee hour after church, or even just to water the plants, there’s always someone able and willing to chip in.
We are an older congregation and we recognize the need to attract the younger generations so that our congregation can continue to grow. The parents and children of our WOW program have spread the word to others and as a result we’ve had more families bringing their children to WOW. |
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
We are looking for a Pastor who will care for our church and who will help us grow as a community of faith, both spiritually and numerically. We hope to widen our footprint in our community as we partner with area churches and community organizations. We would like to re-energize our congregation and to help us become more cohesive and unified. |
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
Qualities we seek in our Pastor are to be energetic, compassionate, visionary, motivated, flexible, open and welcoming. Certainly we seek someone who is an effective communicator yet someone who is approachable. We want our members to feel comfortable bringing their concerns to our Pastor and talking with him/her. It is also important that this person be easy to work with and is a Team player. Hopefully we will find someone we can welcome into our church family, someone we can create a long-term relationship with so this person will come to deeply love our church family and also our community of Silver Lake, Minn. As our Pastor, we hope she/he will view Silver Lake as a desirable place to live and our community a place for developing strong ties. |
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
Tasks we need our Pastor to perform are Preaching, Worship Leadership, administering the Sacraments, providing pastoral care to the sick and to perform any funerals. We also need a person who will help us develop a vision for rebuilding relationships and to plant seeds for growth of our church. We’d like the new pastor, with the help of our members, Elders, and Deacons, to continue to build and strengthen our Christian mission. We want our Pastor to be involved in community activities such as ministerial, interfaith worship services and any community-based mission outreach projects. Additionally there is the need to teach Confirmation. We hope our new Pastor will partner with our Session Elders in developing a robust adult education program. Our Pastor need not attend every committee meeting but be willing and available to provide guidance and leadership to these committees. We hope that anyone who has been inactive will be energized to return to our church with the arrival of our new Pastor.
It is our hope that our new Pastor will help us dream new dreams of a vital faith community at Faith Presbyterian Church, Silver Lake, Minn. Then, help us envision and activate a roadmap to achieve these dreams. |
