What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Our vision is to build upon the experience of our 152 years as a congregation to have a thriving multi-generational church with diverse members who are energized and enthusiastic to do God's work impacting our church, community, and world. We envision our congregation as the moderate, go-to church of the community where people are excited to worship and find inclusion. Our Main Street location is handicapped-accessibleto any one in need. We see our church as a place of hope, love, and support for any and all along their personal journeys. |
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
Several unique programs in our congregation emphasize involvement in the surrounding area:
- A 52-year-old legacy, of Next-to-New, a thrift shop located in a separate building on our property which serves communities throughout southern MN.
- A strong Christian Education program provides Sunday School for all ages, Adult Bible Study, Youth Club, Vacation Bible School, Ladies' Circle, and Confirmation classes.
- Our very active Men's Club grills and serves burgers and brats every Wednesday noon during the summer; proceeds support various community missions, individuals in financial need, and help augment the church's general fund.
- Our Women's Association staffs the Next-to-New as well as helping with other community, state, and international missions.
- Church members have traveled to Guatemala to work collaboratively with congregations of Occidente Presbytery, providing finacial support, prayer, quilting classes, and helping construct a church and home.
- Our quilting group meets regularly to create beautiful handmade quilts for brides in our congregation, nursing home residents of all denominations, and others in need.
- First Presbyterian houses the local Food Shelf and works with the ecumenical Ministerial Association to serve the needs of the hungry in western Faribault County.
- Members started the Backpack Program, which has now become an ecumenical effort that supplies backpacks on a regular basis to local school children that aren't able to have healthy meals at home.
