In Christ’s name and as an outgrowth of our faith, we at First Presbyterian Church are called to boldly share the Good News of Jesus Christ and our salvation.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
Our vision for ministry for our congregation is to have spiritual development and faith in the Lord. Spiritual development can happen in a variety of ways but specifically through education of adults and youth, strong care and leadership of our committee, outreach to our shut-ins and members as well as a strong sense of mission in our community, country, and world. We are a church that works together to help the community. We look for areas of need and devote our resources to them.  Collaboratively we work with other churches for the benefit of youth and the congregation. We are a church that is faithful in theology and the practice of stewardship. Our congregation has a lot of talented, caring individuals that serve communion, continually volunteer with organizations specifically the local food shelf, and are willing to share their talents with our church community.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Our church congregation has a great sense of community and is continually supporting community outreach events and volunteer opportunities like the local food shelf and filling backpacks with meals for kids in the local school district. Reaching the community in a way of sharing about our God, is an ever-increasing need, our church is continually reaching the youth of our church as well as other partner churches in a weekly youth program - JAM. Our deacons are active in planning events for our church and specific groups i.e. over 50 party, spaghetti supper, baked potato supper.  We are continually looking for opportunities for change and growth.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
We are looking forward to filling this position with a caring leader that has skills in leading a determined congregation. We foster an environment that thrives on education and encourage our pastor to use other outlets to grow their mission and help bring their change to the church and community. We allot money each year for books and conferences as well as any other continuing education they may be interested in. The person in this position will help us continue to reach present and future audiences and share our strong sense of faith.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

The person that is called to this congregation needs to be warm and welcoming to all people; he or she needs to have strong communication skills, willing to work with the session, committees, and the congregation; he or she should be a good listener and willing to counsel people when facing tough times. Our church recently overcame an incident of criminal activity. A former church employee was embezzling from the church's financial accounts and using the funds for her own private purchases. This has been an incident where we realized we needed someone who could handle conflict resolution and unite the congregation despite the episode that had occurred. 

We are looking for someone who can appreciate the traditions of a conservative congregation but is willing to incorporate new ideas. He or she needs to be willing to think outside of the box and be creative; our congregation needs a person that is willing to bridge the gap between how things have always been and how things could be in the future. We strive to have a leader that is not only involved in the church but the community. We have a large Hispanic-speaking population in our community and would like the opportunity to explore if/how we can better reach that demographic. He or she should be upbeat, and be able to excite the congregation and community about our church and faith in the Lord.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

Provide solace and spiritual counsel to church members.

Celebrate the congregation during times of joy.

Provide guidance; work with committees to create Christian Education opportunities for all.

Prepare sermons that provide inspiration and challenge; lead individuals to a greater understanding of God’s word. 

Seek visitation opportunities to provide fellowship and goodwill.

Work with members to create opportunities to encourage community members to visit and attend church activities.

Lead elders/deacons in spiritual/personal development and orderly execution of the administration of church assets/properties.

Continue education by taking advantage of offerings provided by seminaries, Presbytery, and others.

Communicate with session, committees, staff, and the congregation; facilitate effective direction of the operation of the church, to the glory of our Lord.

Conduct official church functions of communion, baptisms, weddings, and funerals for our church family and provide continuing aftercare.

Guide congregation with conflict mediation engaging Presbytery as needed.

 

Seek opportunities to guide how the Lord may be working in a person’s life

Work with session/committees to develop a budget and plan for local outreach/concerns.

Work with outreach to develop service projects, and fellowship activities.

Assess with the building committee the usage/maintenance needs to determine repairs/remodels; consider best usage of facilities. 

Take active part in Presbytery and local ministerial association
