Brief Church Mission Statement:
Our mission is to glorigy and serve God with all the resources that God has made available to us.

Highlands is a multi-generational family of faith guided by God in the love we share for Christ and the church. We strive to put that love into practice in our worship and in our ministry to one another and to our community. We encourage growth in faith through age-appropriate youth and adult fellowship and study, and through outreach ministries in our community and beyond. We are full of faith and honest about our doubts and mistakes.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

The vision for Highlands United Presbyterian Church is to be a body of believers who worship, trust and serve the one triune God through faith and gratitude. Empowered by the Spirit we strive to serve Christ in our daily living and to live holy and joyful lives.

Our ministry is to serve the emotional and spiritual needs of our congregation, and to reach out to the community and the church at large. We are a multigenerational congregation that fosters an environment of family among our members while helping them whenever and wherever there is a need and to expand that to include our neighborhoods and community.

Highlands United Presbyterian Church has always reached out to members of our community and beyond who are in need.  We strive to put our love for God into action by volunteering and supporting the local community food bank (Arlington Community Services), Meals on Wheels, the Family Promise ministry in support of families who are experiencing homelessness and with the outreach program, Micah’s Backpack which provides weekend food to food-insecure elementary school children.  Additionally, HUPC members support the Grace of Mercy Orphanage in Haiti, Jamaica Ecumenical Mutual Missions, and seasonal community missions.   We have a member care committee to address the needs of members through the use of shepherds.

We reach out in service to others, promote Christian Education and seek to serve God in the world.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

This congregation is aware that we are in an area of Jacksonville with economically stressed neighborhoods. Knowing that, HUPC works to help those in need by demonstrating God’s love through the offering of food, finances, clothing and housing.

We reach out to the ongoing and continually changing needs of our community and constituency through our mission programs, both local and international. We feel led to do this because we’re blessed by God and are happy and willing to share our time, talents and resources with others.
