Brief Church Mission Statement:
We are seeking a pastor to help our congregation better understand how to fulfill our calling in our community, to help us to continue to grow in Christ in our ministry and mission and to form and reform as we better define our goals.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

Our vision is that in new and imaginative ways, we may continue to proclaim Jesus Christ a real hope to real people facing life in the real world.  Our hope is grounded in the daily sharing of the passion, joy, peace, and acceptance of God’s love and grace.  Our vision is grounded in The Message of Grace, The Joy of Loving Relationships, The Embrace of Diversity, The Strength of Unity, The Potential of People, The Excitement of Growth, The Power of Excellence, The Centrality of Scripture, The Importance of Service, The Necessity of Commitment, and Acknowledging all People are Children of God.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

In a community and in a church whose demographics and needs are changing, we feel called to constantly seek guidance through God and the congregation to better identify the needs of our constituency and to institute programs that address current and emerging missions and ministry.

To realize this calling in the reflection of the teachings of Christ, we support several provisions:

We provide financial and personal provision in support of ministries that include First Presbyterian’s Soup kitchen, MIFA, Habitat for Humanity®, Living Waters,  and Heifer International®.

We provide meeting space and institutional support for an onsite profile and accredited preschool with a qualified teaching and support staff.

We provide fellowship to nurture to our church community through potluck dinners, Wednesday-night dinners, fellowship gatherings after worship service, music ministries, and senior support ministries.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We are seeking a pastor who, through leadership and imagination, will work with and guide our congregation to a better understanding of how to fulfill our calling in our community.  S/he will help us to continue to grow in Christ in our ministry and mission, and to form and reform as together we better define our goals and develop a clear vision for our future.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

We are looking forward to working with a pastor, who with creativity, brings new and imaginative ideas for our church’s ministry and mission, while also being sensitive the traditions which have helped define the church though the years.

We seek a pastor who through self-awareness, honesty and an understanding and recognition of both strengths and limitations will guide our congregation forward.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

A summary of the pastoral position is described:

Worship and preaching are principal in leading Sunday and special services of worship.  We are hopeful that sermons will illuminate God’s Word in scripture and translatable, real-world applications will flow out of worship.

Pastoral care for our church is an important ministry where church members feel confident of the pastor’s care and concern for the members and a willingness to be with them in both joy and difficulty.

The pastor should have a presence in the continued development of relationships between the church community and the preschool.

The pastor should be engaged in church activities, functions, and communities/ministries.

The pastor should be aware that this position is collaborative and supportive, that at no time should the pastor feel alone or burdened with all responsibilities.  Cordova Presbyterian Church is a community of Believers who stand with their pastor in support of shared responsibilities all in the interest of providing the means for sharing the Good News.
