Brief Church Mission Statement:
We are a Presbyterian Church responding to new mission frontiers presented by our changing culture. Guided by our Lord Jesus Christ, we love, serve and embrace all people.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
  • Our church has shown great stamina.  It stands ready to embrace the new frontier on which all churches now find themselves in the midst of all of the ramifications of COVID-19.   We are still exploring the future; how to  worship, how to live and how to reach out in the ever-changing landscape.
  • We celebrate Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, Christmas and Christmas Eve services.
  • The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is shared at least every month.
  • In the face of competing demands for our attention, we strive to be Christ-centered.
  • Our church has great appreciation for traditional music with occasional praise songs, and places an importance on music’s contribution to ministry and to worship.
  • We value our Chancel Choir and instrumental music to enhance our services.
  • We hope for a pastor who will inspire and connect people to God’s word.  Missions have been an important part of our ministry locally, state, nationally and worldwide since its beginning, and we encourage personal involvement in missions.  We allow 10% of our annual income to be designated to mission support.
  • Our investment portfolio was made possible by a generous benefactor and a member of the church who has now passed.  Income from building rental, farm income, pledged income and plate offerings allow us to continue to minister according to our mission statement.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
  • Our core membership, even as small as it is, is very active, committed and receptive to opportunities to partner for Christ locally and word wide. We provide facilities for Alcoholics Anonymous, Character Restoration, Literary Club, Dance Magic, Prairie Arts Council, The Carnegie Players, Miracle Tree, Lenten Luncheons and Primary and  General elections precincts and partner with community non-profits and organizations to grow new and deeper bonds with each other.
  • Most of our members also belong to civic groups where more time and money is given to help in the community.
  • Our church is a place that people in the community know they can count on us to participate in projects as the Back Pack Program, Meals on Wheels, Rensselaer Ministerial Assoc. and the Crisis Center.
  • Our VBS provides a fun, safe environment for children to learn about Christ. We are committed to youth ministry and presently have 5 – 8 participants weekly.
  • We are a church that embraces fellowship and all family units.
  • We are a mission minded congregation that highly values inclusiveness, families from all walks, and our Presbyterian heritage.  We have accepted the stewardship of a long tenured relationship with the community. 
  • We are resilient in the face of challenges.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
  • We are looking for a pastor who not only inspires us but pushes up their sleeves and works beside us in God’s Kingdom, making a difference and showing God’s love in the new world before us.
  • We are seeking a pastor who will lead us faithfully. Who will help us to realize our mission statement on a more personal basis: “We are a Presbyterian Church responding to new mission frontiers presented by our changing culture.”
  • Our pastor should be able to recognize the gifts, talents and qualities in others.  We seek someone who will serve as an example of Christ’s love with meaningful preaching, effective teaching and will welcome all with an open mind and loving heart.
  • We have recently purchased equipment to live-stream our worship services.  Our next pastor should be able to enhance our ministry through technology and meet new challenges as they arrive.
  • Assist our membership who are involved in social service and advocacy groups to study and grow in the word.
  • We value Bible study and small groups to study and grow a deeper understanding of God.
  • We value the opportunity to work with others in the kitchen preparing meals and serving meals.

  • As a welcoming community of faithful Christians, we are open to all of God’s children. Our Pastor should be able to enhance our ministry through technology; and be willing to explore the world of live streaming worship services and events with us.
  • They should stay current with knowledge of the challenges of Covid19 and our options to minister.
  • They deliver serious Biblical sermons that challenge and inspire us to reach out to others and live a better life.
  • Be a good Communicator and an effective preacher and worship leader; theologically moderate to progressive.
  • Will have strategies and ideas, and show a vision on how to increase membership and friends.

  • Putting church and family first; it is hoped the pastor will be involved in the community. Civic organizations are encouraged.
  • Keep our doors open and continue our mission work and ministry to our community and membership.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
  • Leads worship and delivers carefully prepared Biblical Sunday sermons, serves communion and participates in fellowship time.
  • The Pastor will manage the church office in addition to supervising all staff, the office administration, janitorial, music director and youth director.
  • Provide counseling to those in need
  • Focus concentration on growing our membership and friends.  Be proactive in bringing new participants to church and membership development
  • Our leader is the face of our church outreach programs with visitations to the ill, homebound and care facilities and emergency hospital visits
  • Will serve communion in a timely manner to homebound and care facility constituents and members.   
  • Preside at funerals, weddings and baptisms as needed
  • Provide comfort to families in times of loss or grief
  • Facilitate Small Group Study
  • Remain active in the Rensselaer Area Ministerial Association (RAMA)
  • Moderate Session and work with all Session committees
  • Be aware of church financial details in working with the Treasurer and the Finance committee
  • Lead Confirmation classes when needed
  • Attend Presbytery functions
