As humble disciples of Jesus Christ, our mission is to worship the Lord, learn and understand His holy word, encourage and demonstrate the love of God, and utilize our talents to God’s service.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

We seek a vibrant faith in Christ through adherence to Scripture and joyous traditional worship, demonstrating Christ’s love through fellowship, practical outreach and mission. We find our inspiration and direction through the power of God’s Word in Scripture and we uphold the Christian faith as expressed in our Book of Confessions.

We live out our vision for following God’s Word by offering three Bible studies regularly. We fuel our vision by maintaining a strong focus on Sunday worship. We value the presence of our children, and involve them in our worship service. Our music program inspires our worship with beauty and joy. We gather together as a family to worship God, pray together, gather at the table with regular communion, and go forth to serve the Lord.

We live out our vision through many fellowship opportunities: Bible studies, small group dinner gatherings, craft clubs, and outings to sporting events, and a Flea Market, to name a few. We like to be together!

And we live out our vision for practical outreach and mission by tending to those in need within and beyond our walls, both by offering our resources and our presence.

We are small but mighty with a strong focus on Sunday worship, an active music program, Christian education, and mission activities. It’s how we make our vision a reality. It’s how we are as a church.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Green Hill Presbyterian Church lives out our mission by being actively involved in outreach at the local, national, and global levels. Welcome to the beautiful Brandywine Valley, where our sanctuary is tucked away on a picturesque semi-suburban property on the edge of the City of Wilmington. While enjoying our comfortable setting, we realize other needs are very real and present, both locally and in the city of Wilmington.

Within our community, the Board of Deacons ensures members are cared for. Within our walls, we provide hospitality for several active recovery groups. Beyond our walls, faith-based volunteer efforts are supported, and a broad range of needs within our community are addressed.

Some examples of our support include the Ministry of Caring organization, members providing financial and hands on support through our efforts with the Emmanuel Dining Room, two annual clothing drives, and the Christmas Adopt-A-Family program. We also support the Sunday Breakfast Mission, an inner-city Wilmington Christ-centered program for the homeless and addicted. Congregational support has also been growing for Urban Promise, a program committed to equip children and young adults with skills to succeed academically, grow personally, and become service leaders through the work of Christ.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

We seek a pastor who will lead us to achieve our vision and mission goals. S/he will help refine and expand our goals, challenging the congregation to do more. The pastor will guide us to grow in our faith through opportunities for learning and understanding God’s word and will help to nurture children, youth, and adults in their spiritual journeys.

The pastor will work side by side with the congregation to be the hands of God in fellowship, Christian education, community outreach, and membership growth. We want our pastor to be engaged in the community to increase the presence of Green Hill in the community, attracting new members, and connecting with new mission and outreach opportunities.

Our pastor will embrace Green Hill’s joyous traditional worship, collaborate with the director of music, and help us grow in our faith through a Scriptural focus in sermons.

Our new pastor will be someone who possesses obvious delight in what s/he is doing, letting the love and light of the Lord shine for all to see. We seek an attentive pastor, sensitive to the congregation’s culture, who will lead and delegate wisely. S/he will inspire a unity of purpose, engaging in planning within an evolving vision. The pastor must be organized and outgoing, live locally and be socially adept, able to connect with a broad range of audiences. S/he will build solid relationships with individuals, agencies, and community organizations.

Our leader must be available for pastoral care for members of all ages, understand the power of social media and be skilled in using its tools to spread our message. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity, personal depth, and Biblical and spiritual grounding. Our future pastor should also possess emotional maturity, flexibility, and a healthy sense of humor.

We seek a leader and an advisor, someone with strategy, vision, and flexibility, a good communicator with spiritual maturity, and a hopeful person willing to collaborate to leverage his/her vision.

W  -  WORSHIP - developing and delivering vibrant/joyous traditional services

O  -  OUTREACH - participating in our community outreach programs increasing Green Hill's presence in the local area

W  -  WRITER - preparing an uplifting message each month for The Spire, our newsletter


P  -  PREACH - preparing scripture based, life relatable sermons each week

E  -  ENGAGER - engaging in fellowship with the congregation and the community by attending and participating in Church sponsored functions

O  -  ORGANIZER - take seemingly impossible tasks and break them down into achievable goals. Know which tasks to delegate and which s/he must do

P  -  PASTORAL CARE - visiting members in the hospital, retirement communities, or those unable to attend church due to health reasons

L  -  LEADER - moderator of the Session, vision and goal attainment, interact productively with staff and committees

E  -  EDUCATOR - promote Christian education, participating in and leading Bible studies, Sunday School efforts, and other teaching opportunities
