Brief Church Mission Statement:
To Live by Faith in Christ through Worship, Study, Service and Loving One Another.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.

The vision of Trinity Presbyterian Church’s (TPC) Christian ministry is to:

  • Know and follow Jesus Christ and live by faith in Him; through prayer, study and service to our congregation and to others.
  • Witness to God’s Saving Grace, Love and Hope for His creation to all the people we touch and serve.
  • Use the many gifts God has given us to reach out and serve others.

We live out this vision by offering a variety of traditional, contemporary, and informal Christian worship and prayer services and by communicating God’s Word and Love through our music and arts programs. Our church is known in our community for these outstanding outreach programs while our congregation is known for its friendliness and enjoyment of fellowship.

We are experiencing significant positive energy as our church completed, with our Presbytery’s permission, a laity-led accelerated pastoral search.

Our pastor, staff and gifted congregants help us live out our vision by equipping and calling us to a Christian ministry and love for all people. We respond to this call by serving our congregants and the following groups within the community: support and recovery groups, Prescott’s Community Cupboard, Prayer Shawl ministries, Area Shelter Services, and Coalition for Compassion and Justice. We continue to shepherd the Tseyi Bidaa Presbyterian Church in Chinle, Arizona.

How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?

Seeing a need:

  • to celebrate Advent and Lenten seasons, our choir performs two cantatas with full orchestra.
  • to provide more education for the youth of Prescott and Christian outreach to our community, we provide Park Avenue Theatre, music/art lessons and weekly youth group opportunities.
  • to provide other forms of inclusive worship, we started our Friday Project; a come as you are service with a meal and fellowship.
  • to support the homeless and downtrodden, we work with Prescott’s Coalition for Compassion and Justice, Community Cupboard, and Area Shelter Services.
  • to care for our sick and isolated congregants, we provide a Care Ministry, Prayer Shawls, Joy Singers for shut-ins and, monthly, offer a time for healing prayers during the service.
  • to help our recovery community, we provide meeting space.
  • to provide more Christ-centered education we have created an Education Committee that works with our Youth and Children’s Directors and adult CE leaders.

Based upon input from our town halls, we see needs for the following:

  • a capital fund drive (now) to care for our aging facility and one in the future to provide more space for music/performing arts and projected growth in our membership.
  • support in growing our committee structure and reconstituting our Deacon Board.
  • re-engaging with the Prescott Yavapai Indian Tribe; the founding members of our church.
  • develop more programs/classes/activities to meet the needs of the congregation.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

TPC has been a dynamic witness for Jesus Christ in Prescott for over 60 years. We have always served the needs of our community through our mission work.

TPC’s new senior pastor/head of staff will lead this church in a season of change as we seek to realize our vision and mission goals by:

  • nurturing the renewed energy and enthusiasm of our congregation.
  • reinforcing the power of our worship, healing and prayer services; the sermons that are preached from our pulpit and the mission and outreach programs of our church.
  • returning to traditional PC(USA) governance practices by expanding our Session committees and our care ministry.
  • confronting the challenges of our aging congregation and becoming a faithful steward of our beautiful, but aging, church facilities.
  • encouraging younger residents of our community to join our Christian fellowship.
  • embracing Friday Project and the use of our facilities to host creative performances.
  • supporting the weekly and special performances of our choir and the occasional performances of guest musicians at our Sunday worship services.

He or she will assist us in reaching our vision and mission goals by leading us in the work we have begun, through our Congregational Self Study, surveys and town hall meetings, to translate them into concrete commitments to grow our church into the future God wills for us.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

  • Outgoing. Loving. Joyful. Compassionate. Approachable. Collegial. Plain spoken.
  • A visionary who is able to articulate his/her vision for the church he/she serves.
  • A gifted Bible-based, interpretive preacher of God’s Word as revealed in the Christian Bible.
  • A Teaching Elder eager to teach and expand our Bible Study classes, train our adult and youth Christian educators, and help choose our CE curriculum.
  • Eager to work with us as we begin to expand our use of PC(USA) governance and polity and our relationships with Presbytery as well as other churches in Arizona.
  • Feels blessed to serve as a Minister of Word and Sacrament and Teaching Elder in the reformed tradition of the Christian religion; eager to help others understand and embrace this Presbyterian theology.
  • Comfortable with the use of music and the performing arts in Christian worship and outreach.
  • Above reproach in moral, family and financial matters.
  • Helps us restore our historical connection with Prescott’s Yavapai Indian Tribe and to reconnect with our Yavapai heritage.
  • Inspires other Christians to join him/her in the work of God.
  • A servant-leader who will embrace the challenge of helping our church grow - in our love for Jesus Christ, ourselves and others; in our membership; and in our commitment to serve others.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

The principle responsibility of our new Pastor is to lead us in following Jesus Christ; through a balanced ministry of preaching, teaching, pastoral care, administrative oversight and organizational direction. Specific tasks, assignments and program areas include:

  • Preparing and delivering sermons which are relevant to our community and to today’s world, for TPC worship services throughout the year.
  • Administering the sacraments of communion and baptism.
  • Serving as Session Moderator, preparing the agenda for its meetings, and providing management expertise for TPC finance, governance and polity matters.
  • Serving as Moderator of Congregational meetings called by Session.
  • Assisting the Clerk of Session with the preparation of Session minutes and annual reports.
  • Participating in PC(USA) governance matters.
  • Assisting our Congregational Care Committee with its visitation of sick, hospitalized, homebound and/or members in crisis.
  • Supervising the staff, including staff training and yearly performance reviews.
  • Building and maintaining a strong, collegial partnership with the Director of Program Ministries and staff.
  • Helping Session’s Communication and Marketing Committee grow our church’s presence in the community.
  • Supervising and guiding our CE committee as they seek to offer theologically sound and spiritually uplifting programs.
  • Mentoring, teaching and guiding Elders, Session’s committees and volunteers.
